Precise reading of Freud's most important work consolidating the tripartite structure of the mind with the two instincts, the pleasure principle and the death drive. More famously, the book investigates the nature of the social contract as involving the extension of the superego so it stands for society's rules that we must accommodate to enjoy the benefits of civilization.

Lewisohn has embarked on a superbly well-sourced and multi-layered investigation of this near-miraculous cultural phenomenon. So many familiar stories gain essential context here. Many parts of the Beatles' myth promoted over the years are upended,. The narrator's ability to mimic the voices of the Beatles and their circle is eerily accurate but often amusing.

I bet that this came from a book written in a language other than English, then put through a google translator, then published and read by the robotic Kevin Tromp. I can think of no other explanation for the particular kind of awful this audiobook is. I'll be asking for my credit back for this one.
