Historia
Structured in three parts, each recounting a new expedition, there are some long-awaited answers here, to be sure, but also more questions, and profound new surprises. Absolution is a brilliant, beautiful, and ever-terrifying plunge into unique and fertile literary territory. It is the final word on one of the most provocative and popular speculative fiction series of our time.

Absolutely
Revisado: 11-23-24
Absolution is the first audiobook I’ve listened to back-to-back. I love the original trilogy and found this to be more of the same. Satisfying yet incomplete. Fantastic narration. Favorite audiobook in a long while, and I plan to revisit the trilogy next of course.

Historia
Carolyn's not so different from the other human beings around her. After all, she was a normal American herself once. That was a long time ago, of course - before the time she calls "adoption day", when she and a dozen other children found themselves being raised by a man they learned to call Father.

Underwhelming
Revisado: 11-23-24
Maybe I had expectations that were too high but I was ultimately disappointed in this. I was hoping to get some weird fiction if nothing else, but I didn’t find it to be very strange. The narration grated on me after a while.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Scarier than any fiction horror.
Narration is good but it's pretty slow, listen at about ×1.2.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Small serving of Curry
Revisado: 11-17-22
The narration is fantastic, if I was actually reading this book, I may not have finished it as I found the story to only be so-so. However, don't expect much Tim Curry. He's a great Van Helsing (though does make a lot of mouth sounds), but has a relatively limited voice role.

Unlike a lot of things I've read
Revisado: 09-16-22
I don't typically write reviews for books I finish, but in this case I wanted to. In part because the current reviews underestimated how great this series is, and in other part because it's one of the most enjoyable books/series I've finished in a while.
First, I can see how this series may not be for everyone. It is very abstract in its concept and plot. By the end there aren't answers to every question. I found it to be satisfying regardless. I went in reading not knowing or expecting much and I'm glad I did.
If you know you're into genres like weird fiction/ horror, cosmic horror, or abstract science fiction, I would absolutely recommend all three books. If the reviews have you on the fence, don't hesitate any longer and jump in.
I didn't dislike any book in the trilogy but Annihilation was my favorite, partly because of how mysterious the concept still was. It is quite different from the movie if you've seen it, but I've come to love both versions as their own works.
Second to Annihilation, I liked Acceptance. Part of this book is written in the second person, and it seems like it turned many readers/listeners off, but I quite enjoyed that style for the character.
Overall, I loved the prose of Vandermeer. The characters and their development were well written. The themes and ideas of identity and encountering something truly beyond our understanding were enthralling and explored in both beautiful and horrifying ways.
Lastly, I enjoyed the narration. I think all the narrators captured the tone of the writing and were captivating voices. The first two books each had a designated narrator, and both of those narrators and a third contributed to the third book.
