Historia
Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

From a New York Times investigative reporter, this “authoritative and devastating account of the impacts of social media” (New York Times Book Review) tracks the high-stakes inside story of how Big Tech’s breakneck race to drive engagement—and profits—at all costs fractured the world, and is “an essential book for our times” (Ezra Klein).

Historia
For two months every year, from 1946 to his death 18 years later, Ian Fleming lived at Goldeneye, the house he built on a point of high land overlooking a small white-sand beach on Jamaica's stunning north coast. All the James Bond novels and stories were written there. This audiobook explores the huge influence of Jamaica on the creation of Fleming's iconic postwar hero. The island was for Fleming part retreat from the world, part tangible representation of his values, and part exotic fantasy.

Revisado: 11-18-22
I finished this book before I visited Goldeneye in Jamaica. I also read (and re-read) 007 novels while I was there. I found so many interesting information and helped me understand Ian Fleming and 007 novels.

I felt insulted by this novel
Revisado: 05-29-20
One day after finishing this book, my anger against it increased. My feeling was upgraded from "dislike" to "detest". Therefore, 1 star instead of 2.
I had been fascinated by Bill Clinton since he was elected to be US president in 1992. I read many books about him and wished I would meet him one day to see if his charm was real. It finally happened in 2016 at a Hillary event. Hillary was with Bill and Chelsea and I met all of them. Hillary took a selfie with me. What surprised me the most was that Hillary was a better speaker and had more charisma than Bill by that time.
I'm sure many of us who voted for Hillary in 2008(primary) and 2016 wonder "what if"s. One of them is Hillary and Bill's marriage. I read this novel hoping Hillary gets better life in the alternate universe.
Unfortunately, it was a letdown. If she had decided not to marry Bill, she would've moved on completely. Hillary in this novel sounds too insecure about her looks or her value as a woman(and as a person). I don't think she is like that at all. Sittenfeld doesn't seem to understand who Hillary is. It's quite an insult for Hillary and readers like me. I don't think Sittenfeld really understood why women decide to stay with their boyfriends or husbands who are obviously bad for them. I hate the way Sittenfeld cheapened Hillary's character and her struggle.

Revisado: 03-05-16
A 25 year-old nerdy heroine and a "gentleman" professional killer with a bad case of OCD and zero tolerance for unsorted laundry is such a great combination!
I became addicted to Monk's quirky sense of humor.

I don't want to spend time with the heroine
Revisado: 03-05-16
I stopped reading when the heroine Rachel grew up to be a shallow bully. There are many interesting places, and Weiner is a good writer, but I just don't care what happens to the herone in the future. It's supposed to be a "Love Story", but I hate to waste time giving excuse to the main character who doesn't deserve love.

Master of unpleasant!
Revisado: 05-25-15
Martin Amis is a master of unpleasant. Every character is disgusting. Every situation is either nauseating or pathetic! (I think that's the point of this novel).
Much as I hate the book itself, I have to admit Amis's brilliance with words in this novel. (Yellow Dog was awful!).
The rhythm of his prose is more like poem. I didn't get it when I was reading on Kindle, but when I switched to Audiobook I got. Graeme Malcom did a superb job.
If you like "nice" novels which move you or make you believe in humanity, you should stay out of Amis.

I highly recommend this audio version!
Revisado: 05-11-15
The story itself is not the best of Heyer, but this Audiobook version is fantastic! Because it's narrated by Richard Armitage and it's "abridged".
Heyer's novels tend to be overly long with unnecessary details, but this version eliminated these parts. And Armitage did a great job bringing each character. Especially, Sylvester. Armitage made Sylvester more likable than original.
I highly recommend this particular audio version.
