Whoever had thought of comparing this book to "A Man Called Ove" had simply either not read the latter, or engaged in false advertisement. This book is one of the most boring books I've ever read. Simply dreadful.

The narrator was good though, in all fairness.

What did you like best about this story?

Very touching and moving story about struggles and challenges of people with disabilities, issues they face on a daily basis, and their behind-the-scenes routines. There is no sugar coating in the story, and things are presented just the way they are in real life, and yet somehow the author managed to make it an enjoyable read, at times even funny, and as strange as it may sound, the book is not a depressing piece of work but actually quite the opposite - it leaves the readers with a desire to live their lives to the fullest and cherish every moment. The author has also done an excellent job at exploring the characters and making all of them very real and believable.

Any additional comments?

It is a story about LIFE, love, family, friendship and letting go. It is a sad story and yet a life-assuring at the same time. A very good book overall and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

What did you love best about The Rosie Project?

If you like Sheldon Cooper of "The Big Bang Theory" sitcom, you will love this book. I enjoyed it. Funny and engaging, with likeable characters. Narration was good too.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sharp Objects to be better than the print version?

I am not sure.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sharp Objects?

I liked the book, it is very well written, and the plot is interesting, and some of the twists are really unexpected. It is however a little "sick" to my taste - too much violence, bullying, psychological problems almost each character seems to have. Some of the violence stories happening in schools and among teenagers are almost unbelievable and make you wonder how on earth could these things happen in real life, but then again sick things do take place in schools... Overall, a good read but be prepared for some hard parts with human behaviour and mental and emotional problems descriptions.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found the narration truly dreadful. I believe the narrator would be an excellent candidate for reading eulogies, because this is exactly how the entire book has been narrated. Dreadful! Absolutely dreadful!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me sick at times, but it's just me. But I guess that was the author's intention to reveal some of the truths that hide behind seemingly respectable schools and families.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I couldn't fully appreciate the story, since the quality of audio editing was extremely poor. It sounded like the book was patched up from the audio pieces recorded in different studios by different people and using different technology. And I am not talking about chapters sounding different, I am talking about sentences, parts of which appear to have been erased and replaced by separately recorded pieces. Not the usual Audible's high quality standard. I struggled to keep going but had to give up after a couple of hours, and was very tempted to claim my credit back.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kahlil Joseph’s performances?

Absolutely not.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, it looks like the author has done some remarkable research on the topic, but the presentation is boring, and I am not talking about the narrator in this case.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Some times it was hard to tell the voices of the characters apart. But other than that, it was a good performance.

What was most disappointing about Brad Thor’s story?

When somebody gave a voice (literally!) to some of my own thoughts that I wasn't proud of in the first place but would have at the times of anger and despair, I felt truly ashamed of myself. The book is full of hatred, and unless you are an American born and raised blond blue-eyed christian hating all other races and religions, some of the ideas and opinions presented in this book will disgust you. I guess, after killing all arabs and moslems, Mr. Thor would want to see all Russians and Chinese dead too, along with anybody who wouldn't agree with him, just for good measure. I no longer wonder how the world could create and bear Hitlers and Stalins.

What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?

İt was extremely monotone and tidious, except for dialogues. İt felt like he would burst into tears any time during the narration. İn my opinion,he would make an excellent necrology, eulogy or funeral speech deliverer.

Any additional comments?

A good book overall, unexpected ending, original plot.

The narrator's voice is a disaster!

I started the book about 15 times, and could never go beyond the first 15 minutes... Unfortunately, the "sample" button was disabled at the time of purchase, so i bought the book fully relying on the other readers' reviews... I cannot remember anybody commenting on the the narrator's voice... My recommendation would be to listen to the sample before purchasing the book, otherwise you'd waste your money, just like i did...

The narrator is slightly lisping (just a tad!). The story and the characters remind you of those in Bridget Jones books. If none of the above bothers you, you'll enjoy the book AND the narration enormously! I am adding Kate Reading (a.k.a. Johanna Ward, real name: Jennifer Mendenhall) to my favourite narrators list, after Rosalyn Landor! Buy this book if you want to take your mind away from any gloomy thoughts you may have in your head - it will work better than any yoga class! Great fun!

"Ten Things I Love About You" brings back some of the characters of "What Happens in London". I was not overly impressed with the plot, but I gave the book 4 stars, mainly because it made me laugh so many times. I love the author's sense of humour and her writing style; she's got that special way with words that makes the reading so pleasant and enjoyable. Rosalyn Landor (narrator) is outstanding, as usual, and makes you feel like you are 'watching' a movie... The story itself is not very believable but who cares if it's funny and well written! :) My favourite character is the Grandmother, who adds the "spice" to the plot. It's a shame the book contains some unnecessarily detailed erotic scenes, otherwise it would be perfect for all age groups.
All in all, a suitable book for listening while driving.
