Historia
Discover why Buddhism is such an astonishingly lively and adaptable religion with this series. In just 12 accessible lectures, you'll learn how Buddhism transformed the civilizations of India and much of Asia, and has now become a vital part of Western culture.Buddhism's core philosophy, as you'll learn, is that nothing is permanent-all is change. With this in mind, you'll plunge into an introductory look at this faith. You'll unpack the Buddhist idea that all of life is "suffering" and that there is no permanent self.

A Very Good Introduction; but not a Course.

A Good, Broad Overview
Revisado: 08-20-22
Like most Great Courses, this is generally a good sampling of the wider Buddhist world, but just enough to lead you to which areas you may want to look into further. A decent high level overview. Would have preferred if the SE Asian/Theravada lecture spoke about that school instead of shifting and focusing almost exclusively on the political-Buddhist links in those countries.

Pros and Cons
Revisado: 06-02-21
I needed something after completing the Bobiverse Series. In some ways, it ticked some of the same boxes (minus the major nerd factor and the VR aspect). Some subpar work on physics/space travel, some issues that aren’t worth bringing up throughout…in the end, though, I don’t regret reading it and was honesty entertained. I’m sad to see the sequel has such poor reviews and the weird ancient aliens/biblical flood/ sphere of water/magic comet thing going…otherwise I would have kept going with the series.

Worth the read
Revisado: 03-22-21
It’s a financial self help book. I’ve read plenty, in some ways, it feels like all the rest. This one is good about helping you not just understand what you should do (budgeting, live below means, save for retirement) but it’s also good at getting you to see why, and helping you prioritize along the way. It spend a little to long and tries a little too hard to convince you that you want to be financially independent (duh) and uses a lot of examples of people that have lives that very much don’t match my own. That said, written and recorded well, solid information. I don’t regret listening to, but didn’t read much of anything new to me.

Tons of good info!
Revisado: 10-15-20
If you’d like a PhD level author to explain why you should limit eating (intermittent fasting or time restricted eating, as he calls it), with examples and findings from years of studies...this is your book. More a summary of research and defense of a series of related concepts than a self help book, but the info here will help you if you follow his guidance.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

My Favorite Book Series
Revisado: 10-01-20
Bob is such a relatable character. Nerdy, humanist, engineer. The series takes on so many big sci-fi themes with a semi hard sci-fi feel. This was a much anticipated and well done sequel to the series. I’ll write a better review later, but, I’ve read the whole series 3 times now and I can not recommend this author’s work enough. Also, the narrator is everything you’d ask for, great tones, great voice changes for different characters and accents, it’s just a total slam dunk.

Just bought the next one...
Revisado: 07-20-20
I wasn’t expecting to like it, to be honest. This was the just book I found to “read” while waiting for the next Bobiverse book to be released. That said, here I am purchasing book two.
PROS: It’s got all the good science fiction elements: humanity undoing itself, hibernation, space ships, etc. It’s well written and engaging. The changes over long stretches of time were really interesting. Some underlying themes you’d expect. Space spiders were actually really well thought out and done in a clever way.
CONS: I wanted to like at least one character, it’s always good to find one, but I just couldn’t like a single one of them. Plenty of characters to dislike, yet understand, though. However, I still wanted to know what happened to them all. Also, did it really have to be space spiders?

Historia
Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Very Interesting!
Revisado: 10-18-19
I was worried this would be dry, it was not. I was worried it would be too heavy on either history or complicated science (it was not). Granted, I grew up watching history/science/nature documentaries and am a Graduate student in health sciences.
What it turned out to be was a fascinating story on the background, pros/cons, discovery of and people around several major drugs. It very much reminded me of the style of books by Mary Roach, which I quite enjoy as well.
The narration/recording itself was great quality, the reader uses a great pace, timing, and intonation. This is something I’ve learned is important in audiobooks and has previously ruined otherwise good books.
I’ll be looking for more books by this author and (as only a long-term audible member would do) I’ll probably see what other books this narrator has recorded.

Revisado: 08-01-19
I haven’t read a good sci-fi series since going through the ender books awhile back. Good voice acting and recording. It has a few slow spots and story arcs I didn’t like as much as the others, but overall....Decent story line. Nice use of nerd culture references and Bob’s lines of thinking are easy to follow, you want to know what happens next. Like-able good guys, hate-able bad guys. I’ve already purchased book 2.

Warm me first, please.
Revisado: 02-17-19
I’m very much into the minimalist, simplifying, decluttering movement. I’ve read most of the big name books. This had a promising description, seemed right up my alley. However, it’s very much a religious, specifically Christian, book. While I have nothing against the inclusion of the subject in a roundabout way, this was absolutely dominated by religious themes. Joshua Becker does an excellent job mentioning his position and values without overwhelming his books with the stuff. I tried to stick it out, not minding the biblical references when used to make a simplification point, not against someone discussing something so important in their life, but I just couldn’t get through the book. Action steps to get closer to Jesus, invitations to learn about Christianity, and the like are absolutely everywhere. Mostly, I wish it was more clear that this theme was so strongly present throughout the book. The description didn’t mention anything about that, and I had no reason to know this author.
That said, if you like that sorta thing, I’m betting this book has some points of value for you. The narrator has good tone, pacing, and the like.
Overall, It’s an ok audiobook, but seemingly has another agenda, as it doesn’t focus enough on the suggested theme of the book and therefore, it’s just not for me.

When it comes to health, there is one criminally overlooked element: sleep. Good sleep helps you shed fat for good, stave off disease, stay productive, and improve virtually every function of your mind and body. That's what Shawn Stevenson learned when a degenerative bone disease crushed his dream of becoming a professional athlete. Like many of us, he gave up on his health and his body...until he decided there must be a better way.

Revisado: 10-11-17
Energetic, intelligent, author and narator. Useful information and ideas, driven heavily by the authors science/medical career, with plenty of studies and articles quoted. On the flip side, not exactly an abbreviated bullet list, as the title would imply. A number of the suggestions really did make a difference.
