Neil Dudgeon could read me my old trigonometry text book and I would love every second of it. He is an excellent actor/narrator and the reason I started this series. The stories are wildly unrealistic but fun; well written and a great with a cup of tea. I like the main characters. Overall, worth the spend.

I have listened to two of the Meredith series stories prior to this.
I like this one better. I’m not warming to Meredith. I liked the investigators in this on, and I liked Dodd. The writing is detailed and I enjoyed the turns of the story. I think this was his first detective novel.
Narration was excellent.
I’m not sure if Meredith -in the later books - bugs me because of how he is written or how he is read.

The narration saved this mediocre book for me. I didn’t really like Isabel, she struck me as a bit pushy with her old students and vain. So bored she can’t leave well enough alone. And I think her buddy Adeline is supposed to be fun; but came across as obnoxious and compassionless. The story was original enough. I might try another from this author to see, but I don’t know. Better off using your credits on some Ngaio Marsh, maybe.

I started listening because I love Penelope Keith. The first books were cozy and fun. But I feel like someone else is writing the later ones. Parts of this one are just gross and crude. And, as much as I love the descriptions of the countryside and the settings, the shallowness is too much and the repetition is grating.
Larkin does a good job. Nobody beats Keith and her ability to juggle multiple characters. I’m calling it quits. The first dozen are fun.
