Historia
It's difficult to imagine a nation with a history more compelling for Americans than Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was the nation against which we measured our own nation's values and power and with whom war, if it ever came, could spell unimaginable catastrophe for our planet.Yet many Americans have never had the opportunity to study Russia in depth, and to see how the forces of history came together to shape a future so different from the dreams of most ordinary Russian people, eager to see their nation embrace Western values of progress, human rights, and justice.

Not story-telling but history-telling at its best

Great for a general picture but sparse on the details
Revisado: 04-11-24
a competent and informative overview of Russian history. Sets an overall pucture in your head but will bit make you an expert, or indeed even a formidable conversationalist about any of the periods discussed.
the narration is quite nice and likable, but unfortunately the professor stutters a lot, and also fails to bring as much passion and drama of the sort that usually truly elevates this medium.

Historia
The 25 years between the onset of the French Revolution in 1789 and the Bourbon Restoration after Napoleon in 1814 is an astonishing period in world history. This era shook the foundations of the old world and marked a permanent shift for politics, religion, and society - not just for France, but for all of Europe. An account of the events alone reads like something out of a thrilling novel.

Absolutly Breath-Taking
Revisado: 02-22-24
A fascinating and detailed account of one of the most important events of the modern era. reads more like fiction than anything else and is almost impossible to put away. Would recommend even to people who "don't like history" to challenge their assumptions. Even the reading itself feels personal, urgent and emotional 👏

Historia
Warrior and writer, genius and crank, rider in the British cavalry’s last great charge and inventor of the tank - Winston Churchill led Britain to fight alone against Nazi Germany in the fateful year of 1940 and set the standard for leading a democracy at war. Like no other portrait of its famous subject, Forty Ways to Look at Winston Churchill is a dazzling display of facts more improbable than fiction, and an investigation of the contradictions and complexities that haunt biography.
