Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Historia
Written by renowned clinician and researcher Dr. Mike Abrams, The New CBT: Clinical Evolutionary Psychology is the first book to make evolutionary psychology and behavioral genetics readily accessible to mental-health professionals, students, and researchers. By explaining the role of heredity in all major DSM disorders, Dr. Abrams helps listeners reduce the stigma of psychological dysfunctions and better understand how the brain, the genome, and the body dynamically contribute to mental disorders.

I love this book! Personally, I love science books and I love that Mike Abrams incorporates so much science into his new approach to CBT. Discussing evolution these days is a risky feat because people often jump to conclusions of bigotry even where there genuinely isn’t any and where bigotry isn’t relevant. For example, something I learned in this book is that evolutionary psychology allows a psychologist who is well read on the topic to understand that their patient may have been genetically inclined to be addicted to ice cream, with that known, the therapist can more accurately treat the patient because the therapist won’t be wasting time wondering why the patient is so addicted to ice cream!! I seriously recommend reading this book, I am not a doctor or a scientist, and I still found it easy to understand.

Historia
My name is Brett. I'm a college-educated man who was once a husband of 26 years with two children, three businesses, and a large home with an actual white picket fence. I'm also a drug addict. And I have a tale to tell. It's about the despair of addiction and the absolute certainty that it can be overcome. Recovery is not simply abstinence, but a process of growing up. I spent my entire life searching for the key to long-term sobriety. I would like to share with you what I have learned.

TRIGGER WARNING
Revisado: 09-19-22
This author is openly racist and refers to a seemingly innocent woman as “scary black woman.” He is also a Republican, take from that what you will… Entertaining if you don’t mind random tidbits of racism!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

I loved this so so much. As an actress myself, I really love this. My sister who is in med school and not an actor really loved it too!

I loved this book! Kristin Hannah is a legend in the making. I enjoyed the vivid image of fictional character Lenny’s life I was able to learn through Kristin Hannah. Also, warning, you WILL want to visit Alaska after reading this! ❤️
