Historia
My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

A bit transitional but...
Revisado: 07-04-24
This story is definitely a transition in the series as the world gears up for some seriously huge battles to come, but that's okay. It's fun to see different sides of some characters and learn more about characters we have previously only met in short stories. If all of the things that happened in this story, that had to happen in preparation for future books, happened or were mentioned in a different book; I think we would have felt cheated.
My only regret? How long I will have to wait for the next book! :)

Historia
The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.

Always a surprise
Revisado: 07-04-24
Every book in the series surprises me in one way or another, and this one was all that and more! As an audio book, it gave the impression of a horror film in how heart pounding it was. I normally hate horror films, but with characters that I already love, and no truly idiotic mistakes- it was a lot more fun than any horror film I have ever seen.

Romance with substance
Revisado: 05-31-23
This is a beautifully written story that, except for some world building, could be read as a stand-alone novel. Though I completely recommend getting the full trilogy.
Unlike most romance books these days, this one has twists and turns you can't easily predict. And the romance blooms over the course of the story.
If you are looking for a romance with instant attraction, hot looks and sizzling sex- this is not for you.
But if you are looking for a unique world to capture your imagination and a love that reads like the real thing... This book/series/author is for you!

You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet. And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me....

Way better than expected
Revisado: 09-21-20
Honestly the premise kinda threw me, I'm not usually the type for aliens; but this was very well done. If I could this would be 4.5 stars across the board (I'm kinda picky).
First, Ruby Dixon did a great job of making this as believable as possible emotions wise. Obviously in a 6 hour book I find 'I love you' to be a little premature, but other than that. There was also the right amount of detail in her descriptions to where I felt like I could get a bit of a vision of the world.
Second, the narrators were very good, no awkward pauses etc.
I would say that if you like books where a strong male mates an emotionally strong female, you would like this book. It's only 6 hours so give it a shot. But if that seems short, don't worry- this is a longish series for those who wish to continue.

She is just a soft woman, after all. Councilwoman Pearl has sacrificed herself to save an innocent priestess. Trapped in the Northlands, her soft voice and sugar-coated view of the world doesn't impress Khan.

WTF
Revisado: 09-21-20
So I read the first book and though I was put off by the extreme sexism, it was a part of the story and it seemed like it was part of a world building stepping stone. Then I started reading this one...
At the beginning I loved both characters (except for the sexism) but by the time they have sex the entire relationship is ridiculous. During their first encounter she told him no over and over again and in the end he got the tip in and was like 'please I must have you' and she said NOTHING. He took this as ascent and went ahead.
That was already F***ed up, Then she starts to develop feelings for him even though he has shown no emotional growth AT ALL. I am currently over half way through the book and both of the main characters are acting like they are falling in love- but Khan still doesn't even acknowledge that she is his equal and is still planning to use all of their plans to take over the world.
I generally finish 95% of the books I start, Even when I have no plans to finish a series, but I just can't listen to this anymore.
This book is not worth a credit or the nearly 10 hours of your time. Don't do it.

Better than I was lead to believe
Revisado: 09-11-20
Others have complained about how hard this book was to follow, but I think it was the most well written in the series. I'm not saying there weren't some sections that were a little hard to follow, but the extent to which Lisa captures Harlan's character and the visceral feeling ADHA can produce were awesome.
I also like how this book really tied all the other books together by showing us the 'outsider's' perspective.
To make getting through the book easier just do the audio version. It's a lot easier to just get an idea of what's going on and Michael Pauley did a great job of letting us 'feel' the events as they happened.

Pure entertainment
Revisado: 07-30-20
The #1 reason this is a 4 vs a 5? Description.
While the dialogue is priceless, there is very little description of anything or anyone other than personality.
I was sad that there weren't any sex scenes considering how hot the lead-ins were, but it didn't detract from the story too much. Just something you should know going in.
The #2 reason this is a 4 vs a 5 is strongly related to the first. There was very little world building to explain anything. And right when you're dealing from a complete gloss over of their 24 hours together, the author just glosses over almost eleven years.
The narrator was good, but she didn't have a strong difference between 'Dylan's' voice and other men of a similar age. Also, she wasn't able to do much of a Texas accent- which was sad since this took place mostly in Texas.
Overall, this is a thoroughly entertaining book and I will likely listen to more in the series; but with either more effort or a second author this could have become SO much more.

Historia
Life has been harsh, but after a horrible childhood, Park was finally content with her life. Her beautiful home sat on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles, she had her dream job, and good friends she trusted. Then she's abducted, car-jacked by a stunningly sexy man who she realizes is dangerously crazy... he thinks he's a vampire. Park plays along until she can escape, until she discovers that there are things out there people like her never knew existed.

Escapism
Revisado: 07-05-20
If escapism if all you seek this will fit the bill; but if you are looking for a little more... not so much.
*Spoiler alert- first problem.
How does Zach know where Park lived? How did he get in? And why did the police miss the dress? Seriously, if you know anything about police detective work you know that they bag everything and sort it later.
Zach says that the cops didn't know what she wore on the date. Why not? Cops would have interrogated him when they arrested him. I could go on, but it's already ridiculous.
Second problem.
The author doesn't go into a lot of detail at critical moments. I can forgive the brief sex scenes because they aren't for everyone. But at the climax of the book; the point that everything has been leading up to, she gives a brief overview from a new character's perspective. It's an emensce let down that completely deflated the story and made the author lose all credibility with me.
I think the reason I feel so strongly is because I could see an overall good story idea. In the end though, this reads more like a first draft than a completed book.

Fundraiser Linden Hill has a knack for reading people. She's even foreseen her dateless weekends 464 times in a row. But 10 years after watching life drain from her former mentor's and first love's eyes, her skills for divining the predictable are lost.

Not for everyone
Revisado: 07-04-20
The performers were great, but the story is not for everyone.
If you're okay with the characters being 'in love' with multiple people at the same time this is a great series with fun twists and exciting sex scenes. But if you prefer the 'one true love' stories... don't read past this first book.
Truly though, this performance was well directed. It was fun having the characters actually laugh and growl and talk over each other.

Better with every listen
Revisado: 06-24-20
I'll admit that the first time I listened to this one I was really upset by the addition of the male narrator since I was used to and love the voices Lorelei King had given the characters. I was so upset that I didn't even review the book.
Eventually I listened to it again when the next book came out, and this time I was prepared. That second time I just let go of my frustration and appreciated the book itself, which was wonderful- as all of the Mercy Thompson books are.
Just now I finished my third listen as I prepare to listen to the newest book in the series. This time I appreciated not only the story, but all the little tidbits that wouldn't have been a mystery if George Newbern hadn't been a part of the production.
It took me a while, but I now appreciate that this was written with exceptional intelligence by Patricia Briggs. She didn't just give us a linear timeline from a single perspective that might be amazing, but a tangled web that was also intriguing and thought provoking. My first time listening I wasn't sure if I would be able to listen a second time, but now it is one of my favorites.
If you are listening to this one for the first time; take a deep breath, prepare yourself for the difference and just enjoy the ride.
