Historia
Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. Years after his brother Bobby had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife.

Great narrator & really engrossing story!
Revisado: 10-24-22
I picked up this book without a lot of high hopes. I'm not a big YA fan & free books from Audible can be hit or miss. I was thrilled to love the book & continued on with the series. The characters have real depth & I love that the characters aren't the same old same old. Diversity for the win! +It's an LGBT #OwnVoices read. Pick up the series. You won't regret it. Shout out to the great narrator as well!

Guess I'm in the minority
Revisado: 09-08-21
I didn't like this. I gave up after an hour and a half of listening. It just seemed confusing, a little boring, and I'm also not a big fan of ensemble audiobooks (though this is one of the better ones in terms of cast and not having sound effects/music overshadow everything).
Looking at some of the negative reviews, I also don't think the book is going to get better, only worse. Who wants to listen to a story with rape in it? Ugh.
I love fantasy, but there are far too many wonderful books out there for me to waste my time on a book I'm not loving.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

FAR better as an audiobook
Revisado: 08-26-21
This is FAR better as an audiobook which seems especially surprising for me to say since this is literally the first audiobook with a cast I've ever finished. I love audiobooks, but hate full cast productions. But the cast made this book better than it was. The style of the book also suits audio more because it's written as individual band member interviews. I think it would fall much flatter as a book because of this which is also funny for me to say since I generally prefer books over audiobooks. (I only listen to audiobooks for the times I can't read ebooks such as when I'm doing chores or exercising.) The casting choices were perfect as well.
So why the 3 stars? This is not my genre. I mainly read sci fi & fantasy. I also like lots of action, not lots of talking. But I had to read this book for a team book challenge. By the description, I should have hated the book. So 3 stars for this from me is fantastic.
I loved the ending.

Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

I'm not the right audience for this book
Revisado: 08-08-21
I think this book would appeal to others, but the description is doing the novel a disservice pulling in people like me who are then disappointed by it. When you look at the negative reviews (especially on Goodreads), we're all saying the same thing.
Based on the description, I was expecting something light, funny, and full of action written for an adult audience. And was annoyed that this isn't what I got. Instead, I got insta-connections without character development, monologues, sci fi that seemed based more on wishes/unrealistic solutions than science, and YA. It's a shame because I feel like I wasted my time when this book wasn't written for someone like me.

Charming & Fun
Revisado: 07-29-21
This series is absolutely delightful! I don't usually like YA, but this was action-packed & engaging. The author clearly also knows cats well which added to the enjoyment of the story. Adored it as an audiobook cause the narrator used all sorts of fun accents which just added to the charm of this book. Giving an extra star just for that. Highly recommend & it's included with Audible Plus!

Want to be immortal? You can be in AD 2110. Just go to the Hereafter Insurance Corporation and hook yourself up to the Machine. There’s nothing to fear. Decent 1950s Book; Great Narration
Revisado: 10-15-20
I didn't realize this was a novel from the 1950s. (If you look at the new modern cover, you'll see why.) My first clue as to the date was the sexism. Lol That's when I looked up when the book out. The sexism (and a minor bout of racism) can get cringey at times, but it fits with the times and is less blatant than many other authors from back then. And the story is great for a 1950s book. It got a little wordy at times and the ending was a bit trite, but overall, the ideas are fun and the story is surprising. Decent read and the narration is lovely. Bronson Pinchot is wonderful as always.

Epic Fantasy + Mystery = Awesome
Revisado: 09-29-20
What a lovely surprise! I wasn't expecting much, but this was an awesome adventure. It's like an epic fantasy and a mystery novel had a baby creating this fun book.
The narrator with his wonderfully gravely voice is just perfect for this too.
