Historia
After a health scare, 77-year-old Barbara goes to convalesce in the sleepy Somerset village of Winsleigh Green with her sister, Pauline, who is now a widow. The sisters are like chalk and cheese - Barbara, outspoken and aloof and Pauline, good natured and homely - so it’s not long before the tension starts to rise. But when Pauline accidentally knocks down a vagrant who goes by the name of Bisto Mulligan, the ladies find themselves with another houseguest.

I absolutely loved this story. I didn't expect to enjoy the characters as much as I did. The story and the narration was excellent!

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

A Favorite Christmas Tale
Revisado: 12-31-22
This is my favorite Christmas story narrated by my favorite, Richard Armitage! It's actually my third time and I believe will be a must listen every Christmas season. The story is both heartbreaking and redeeming.
Richard Armitage does a fabulous narration with so many voices, it's easy to picture the room full of different characters. I just love it!

Historia
When Evangeline is sent to live in a small mill town in Northern England as a schoolteacher in 1871, she finds herself struggling to fit in with an unfamiliar culture. Raised with the high-class Victorian values and ideals of a sophisticated upbringing, she is unprepared for the poverty she finds in the gritty factory town of Smeatley, where the locals speak with a hard-to-understand Yorkshire accent and struggle to thrive with few resources or opportunities. Though she has no training as a teacher, she must prove herself successful before her grandfather will release her inheritance.

An Exceptional Love Story
Revisado: 07-29-22
I loved this book! When I read the reviews I was curious, they were either 5 or 4 stars or 1 or 2. The reviewers either loved it or hated it. The low reviewers mostly complained about the overwhelming sadness. Good grief, it took place in Victorian northern England. The times were indeed hard. Even with the sad times there was a heartwarming, uplifting love story. I enjoyed the narrator as much as the story. I will definitely recommend the book to my friends.

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

A Sweet Regency Read
Revisado: 06-11-19
I very much enjoyed all three novellas. I like cross class romance especially during the Regency period since it was all about proprietary behavior and that was not at all proper. Bath is a nice change from London as well and I really enjoyed the less formal entertainments. The sweet romances of all three couples were well written and highly recommended.

Historia
When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man: a scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.

A Weaving of the Present With the Past
Revisado: 05-18-19
I usually read historical romance, not so much contemporary but the title and blurb urged me to listen. I enjoyed the male/female narrators, they did a great job! The story was a great beauty and the beast theme but the underlying tragic story of Angelena and John was a thread that was both intriguing and heartbreaking. I liked the narration going back in time to bring clarity to the myth of their tragic love story and the history of the plantation and the hero, Jonah's family.
The hero's tragic story was also developed well and finally resolved with many surprises. The depth of the character developments was great and I felt drawn into their world.
All in all I am very pleased that I chose to listen to this contemporary romance audiobook and recommend it.

A Most Enjoyable Finale to a Great Series
Revisado: 10-24-18
George and Dora's story is my favorite of the Survivor's Club. The Duke of Standbrook was always an important character woven through the series but his story is really the most heartbreaking and I had hoped for a happy ending for Agnes' sister, Dora from the earlier book. I enjoyed all the books in the series with great characters and their stories.

A Heartrending Story of Second Chance Love
Revisado: 09-30-18
l loved it, Hugo, Lord Trenton is my new favorite hero. Gwendolyn is a perfect, imperfect heroine. Ms Balogh writes a romance with characters that really need a happy end after all the sorrow that has followed them.
The narrator is very good at using distinguishable voices for the cast of characters and reads with feeling.
I recommend this audiobook and look forward to more of this series of wounded military men.
