Historia
Mary Lennox starts her life as an unhappy victim of circumstance. After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. Although unsure about her surroundings and its occupants, through the gentle guidance of the maid she gradually becomes interested in the story of Mrs Craven, who apparently used to spend her time in a garden at the house, the key to which has vanished.

Just a wonderful old fashioned feel good story. Recommend for anyone 8 to 108.

The somewhat dismal beginning set the stage perfectly for a beautiful ending. I found it to be a “Breath of fresh air”, and refreshingly free of the sex, greed, manipulation and violence which seem to be the unfortunate staples of so many stories.

This story came to life vividly in my minds eye. Though it may appeal more to young adult audience, I’m a young 65 and enjoyed it very much. I went through all three books in rapid succession, even putting a 30 minute timer on as I went to sleep some nights so it lived on in my dreams as well. If you liked the Hunger Games or Lord of the Rings you’ll like this one though it’s totally different. Having well crafted characters and well narrated throughout, I’m surprised it hasn’t been made into a movie yet.

Not his best work
Revisado: 03-13-23
Listened to the whole thing because WWII is interesting to me. I read all I can on it from historical accounts, to textbooks, biographies of key figures, and historical fictions.
This one was underwhelming The writing style seemed a little unpolished, but that was compounded two fold by the narrator’s somewhat simpering voice depicting the various male character’s dialog.
That definitely annoyed me, but hey, that’s just me, You may love it and so I’d say, give it a try.

Historia
The story of the world's largest, longest, and best-financed scientific expedition of all time, triumphantly successful, gruesomely tragic, and never before fully told. The immense 18th-century scientific journey, variously known as the Second Kamchatka Expedition or the Great Northern Expedition, from St. Petersburg across Siberia to the coast of North America, involved over 3,000 people and cost Peter the Great over one-sixth of his empire's annual revenue.

Riveting, revealing & well read.
Revisado: 03-08-23
While only the last 1/3 of this true historical account has to do with the actual “Island of the Blue foxes”, the author did a fantastic job of explaining what led up to the survivors being shipwrecked there, in the first place, which brought so much more depth to the tale. The backstory was critical, and as interesting to me as the title subject of the story. I enjoy history in general, as it enlightens one as to why things are the way they are today.
So much of what “not to do”, can be learned from history, and that is certainly the case here. While every high school student has heard of Russian Tzars, Peter the Great, and Catherine the Great, this book fleshes out the lesser known details of life and politics in Russia in the mid 1700s.
I couldn’t stop listening, and actually re-listened to several parts. I was especially interested and saddened by the ecological ignorance of the people of the time.
At first, narrator’s measured, unhurried speech temped me to increase the speed, sit quickly realized it was allowing me to better
visualize the scenes being described. I’m glad I didn’t speed through it, as it gave my brain time to absorb and digest it all. Good Book!

Not what I expected
Revisado: 12-13-21
The last thing I want to hear before settling down to try and sleep is several very lengthy advertisements to purchase and or support the podcast series!
When it Finally got around to the first story it was read soooo slowly that I found myself aggravated rather than relaxed. A normal paced monotone would have put me to sleep in minutes, as I found the story of “Snowy” the snowman juvenile both in content and the way it was written. Glad this was a freebee from Amazon, and that I didn’t spend any $ for the disappointment.
That’s just my humble opinion and I encourage you do try it anyway as you may like it. T.W.

Historia
For centuries, the Vikings have swept out of the Norse countries and fallen on whatever lands they could reach aboard their longships, and few could resist the power of their violent onslaught. They came at first to plunder and then to settle, an encroachment fiercely resisted wherever they went. Such was the case in the southern lands of Ireland. En route to the Viking longphort there, known as Dubh-linn, Thorgrim Night Wolf and Ornolf the Restless stumble across an Irish ship.

Good Story but Narration was irritating
Revisado: 07-21-19
I love these types of historical fiction sagas which if well done can give you an idea of how people lived and interacted in eras long gone. Unfortunately, this one was all but ruined for me by the sleepy whisper and repetitive sing-song pause and repeat, sing-song pause and repeat style of the narrator. It reminded me of the way the actor William Shatner portrayed the speech pattern of Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series, pausing at several inopportune moments in each and every sentence. It just about drove me crazy, (whenever the whispering tone wasn't putting me to sleep), that is. Fortunately the story itself was just interesting enough to keep me coming back for more despite the irritation.

Sigma force seems to time travel to 1943 but not really
Revisado: 09-02-18
The story overall was a typically enjoyable Sigma Force adventure with lots of real world facts well researched by the author to keep it thought provoking. BUT,...I really had a problem with the narrator Grover Gardener who’s voice style (in my opinion) is better suited to a World War Two era news cast or movie script. This old fashioned voice inflection rankled me throughout the story which is set in modern times. After having become accustomed to the main characters personalities and voices as portrayed in other Sigma Force books 1 and 2 narrated by John Meagher, I just couldn’t enjoy this narrators interpretation of those same characters in this third book of the series. It’s an unfortunate problem that occurs too regularly in multi volume episodic novels that switch up narrators. I know I know picky picky! I do not mean to knock Mr. Gardener As a narrator per se. He is obviously very talented and accomplished. It’s just that for me personally, I think his speaking style would be more enjoyable in a different context and time period piece. It just didn’t work for me in this Sigma Force episode. I noticed that there are two more narrators used in the next several books so we’ll see.

Interesting and Enlightening.
Revisado: 03-22-17
This is not a book everyone will enjoy but I found it fascinating. It is not romantic, action packed, suspenseful or clinically dry. It is rather, an insightful , thought provoking and touching window into the life of a man that most people would shun if they encountered him in person and yet in doing so would be cheating themselves of a slight chance of ever understanding a rare and unique individual. I commend the author for working so hard to bring this story to us. It's too bad for Mr. Knight that he was ever discovered, but I thank him for allowing his story to be told and sincerely wish that he regains his "Freedom" without further turmoil if that is what he still desires.
