Historia
The true story of Melody, aged eight, the last of five siblings to be taken from her drug dependent single mother and brought into care. When Cathy is told about Melody’s terrible childhood, she is sure she’s heard it all before. But it isn’t long before she feels there is more going on than she or the social services are aware of. Although Melody is angry at having to leave her mother, as many children coming into care are, she also worries about her obsessively – far more than is usual....

There’s the Cathy I’ve Been Missing!
Revisado: 01-10-19
I’m a big Cathy Glass fan! I have read every one of her books and anxiously await her latest releases. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to give her more recent books 5 star reviews. I felt that they strayed from her narrative technique that works so well: her own point of view. That’s what I love about her books. They are so authentic. Her last few books, “The Silent Cry” and “A Long Way From Home” in particular strayed from this format. This one went back to the style of some of her classics such as “Cut,” “Damaged,” and “The Night the Angels Came.” I’ve been missing this Cathy! Melody’s story is beautiful, heartbreaking, and hopeful. I definitely recommend.

One of my new favorite books
Revisado: 04-05-18
This was one of the best books I have read in a really long time. Wingate is a fantastic author using beautiful imagery and weaving this story together up to the last page. I love that she kept me guessing when so often I have figured out the secret after the first few chapters. Up the very end I learned something new each chapter. I had never heard about the horrors of the Tennessee Children's Home Society or Georgia Tann and was saddened, but also glad, to finally learn about it. I don't want to spoil it, so I won't use the name, but I did have thing I wish I could have known more about in the story. Once you read it, you'll know what I'm talking about. There is one sister who the girls lose track of. I understand that Wingate did this to show that many of the children were not heard from again. I just found it really hard to have no idea whatsoever what happened to this girl. I wish there had been some hint as to what may have happened, although perhaps anything my imagination can create is worse. I just found it hard for her to simply disappear from the story and not really have any explanation later on. Overall though, the reveals were so well done and it is beautifully written. I recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction and learning about new historical events that haven't been told many time before. I listened to it on Audible and I recommend this as well because both actresses are great and really capture the lives of these characters through their voices.
