I wasn’t crazy about the accent of the narrator. I thought maybe I was reading a East Coast American story instead of a British story. Also, I wasn’t crazy about the men’s voices. The one she ends up being with, had the most annoying voice of all.

I know it wasn’t word for word Jane Austen but I just got caught up in how wonderful the narration was. It used different voices for each character’s dialogue. I felt like I was listening to those old radio programs from a hundred years ago with all the sound effects and everything. It took me a month to listen to it all but it was just a delight to listen to!

So turns out that I actually own this book in digital format but never got around to reading it, like so many books I have piling up in my kindle. Why I haven’t read it when I’ve liked all other books by this author? I don’t know. However, when the opportunity to listen to the audio book version I jumped on the chance.

The story is really good. It had several twists or curveballs that I didn’t see coming. Zane and Camilla were like this awesome crime solving team. They definitely had the ‘made for each other’ romance going on. I love the scene where they go to Zane’s parents house and he is trying to talk himself into going to see them after a 8 year absence. The way everything happens just touched my heart. The dream thing was a little weird for me but overall, really good book! Loved it!

The way the audio is done, with that voice, it makes the story come so much more alive. The different tones he uses, the inflection for different speakers and scenes, it all just came together really well and made me love the book that much more.

Warning: highly addictive! I thought I would just listen to the book for a little bit while making lunch and before I knew it I passed the whole day doing chores with my earbuds in so I could finish the book! Thankfully I have an understanding family and it’s also baseball season for my guy!

Although it turned out that I own the book and didn’t even realize it, I received a copy of this audio book from the author. My review is voluntary and my honest opinion.

Looking for an light enjoyable book to curl up with? I definitely recommend this book. And if you can listen to it on audiobook, the narrator has the perfect voice for this book. It’s a sweet read about a young medieval teenager, Catheryn, trying to become a woman in her own right. Enter Selwyn, her childhood friend who seems determined to remind her not to lose the carefree youth he knew her to be many years ago. However, before Selwyn realizes it, he is in love with who she has become in his absence. The rub of course is that now he is just a lowly steward and she is the Lord’s daughter and heir. How could she ever return those feelings?

I've bought a couple audio books in the past but I never felt like the voice really matched the story. Right away when the narrator started I knew this was a perfect match for this book. It made the book so much more captivating!
The story I really enjoyed. I haven't read a lot of books from this medieval time period so it made it all the more interesting to me to read about the conflict going on. Although the setting of the book was in time period marked with war and injustice, the book still had an underlining hope for something better to come. The characters were very well developed. Though I felt like the book was a little on the long side, thus the 4 stars, the story was never stagnant. It surprised me with plot twists and unexpected developments.
What I appreciated most was seeing the main character, Avis, heal from the atrocities of war and become a strong woman, knowing her own mind. The book is a clean sweet read!
