I enjoyed it. Interesting view of the lives of polygamous homes, maybe. Whether accurate or not, it was certainly entertaining. Good narration too!

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.

Love love love
Revisado: 04-14-21
I absolutely loved this book. I love it when I find a book that has both excellent writing and excellent narration. What did I like about it? It wasn’t predictable; there were twists and turns that were unexpected. I loved the varying vantage points. I found myself choosing the book over Netflix and Hulu. Definitely a good sign. The themes about social media and self involvement and depression and mental illness were all pretty timely. I recommend.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.

Historia
An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Everything you wanted to know about affairs
Revisado: 12-08-19
This was a great deep dive into affairs. I’m not married and haven’t experienced much fidelity but the topic, nonetheless, is one spoken about often. This gives real stories and great ways to categorize the subject. When you read, know this: the author has an accent (a wonderful one if you ask me); she’s a therapist, a PhD, and approaches it very clinically at times; the topic is very individual to each relationship so if you’re looking for a checklist of what to do when, you won’t get it here. What you will get are lots of stories about how the big categories manifest. Why do people cheat? How do couples move on? What is it like if you’re the other woman (or man)? Why do some people prefer transactional trysts? What does a non-conventional relationship look like? Keep an open mind, take from the book what works for you. I was personally looking specifically for those things to pay attention to in future relationships to hedge against infidelity; there’s some fodder for that too.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Slow Start, Great Finish, and Big Lessons
Revisado: 11-27-19
This book started off slowly. It was recommended to me; otherwise, I might have stopped reading early. But I kept going and I’m glad I did. Knowing that it’s a true story makes it crazy! It was so factual. And incredible; like you can’t believe people would fall for something so important but it happened. At a point, I couldn’t stop listening. The lessons are big ones. (Spoiler alert of sorts.) Some people are just that awesome that they’ll risk their own interests for the public good and what is right. Some people are so bad that you can’t believe anything they say even when others believe them and vouch for them. Some things really are too good to be true. When you don’t understand something, ask. And keep asking until you do understand. Boards of companies and organizations have real responsibilities; be careful; if you join one, do your job. The world is hankering for women entrepreneurs; but substance is still necessary.

OMG, Seriously? Love Shonda Rhimes!
Revisado: 09-20-16
I absolutely love Shonda Rhimes after reading this book. If you know Grey's Anatomy, you'll understand: she has become my person!
Shonda has an excellent storytelling style; this is why she owned Thursday night and why everyone loves Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder (and I loved Private Practice regardless of what anyone else's opinion is on the last one). This book was no exception. I heard so many pearls of wisdom from the author and the entire time I felt like I was with her on her journey.
I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind who likes a good story. Her narration was flawless (unlike some authors).
