I went in almost blind with this book. All I knew was that it was gonna be gay. I really enjoyed it. The main character was a little much for me at times but not so much that I wanted to stop reading. The narrator did well and I was able to tell the characters apart from one another which is always a plus. I did have some trouble telling if it was the main character talking aloud or thinking to herself. The ending wasn't something I was expecting especially considering the direction it was going in, but ultimately I think it was a great ending for the book.

Narrator was good, sometimes it was difficult to tell who was talking but not a constant issue. the story however, was super rough. I think the most upsetting part of the entire story is that Jamie chooses to continue having a friendship, possibly more since it was left open, with Dylan after everything that happened between them. Him constantly looking for a sign from his dead father and worried more about what the dead think of him rather than the feelings of a very much alive girl made me want to bash my head against the wall. There was some small, barely there character growth from him throughout the story, but honestly there was more character development from his mother.

Do I regret spending 10+ hours listening to this story? No. Do I feel the need to ever read this story again? Also no. The story itself was decent enough to keep me engaged out of curiosity to know who was Private, but ultimately my first guess ended up being correct. The story brought light to the harm that lgbtq+ youth can go through when faced with a religious upbringing even without going into graphic detail. I'm usually a sucker for multiple narrators as I feel it brings a story more to life, but it is a bit annoying when one narrator outshines the other. Which is what happened here, the narrator for Rosalie I feel gave a better performance than the one for Amanda.

I picked this story since it was free and I was curious due to the cover. While the narrator gave a decent enough performance it wasn't anything to write home about. The story itself however was very engaging and moving. A good slice of life showing the struggle someone can go through at any given time.
