Historia
Chandler isn’t a person; it’s the codename for a woman who was shaped from a raw military recruit into a living weapon. She’s an assassin without remorse or fear, doing the bidding of an agency so secret that only three people know of its existence. But when her cover gets blown, she becomes the target of a wide-reaching conspiracy led by a mysterious figure whose connection to Chandler goes far beyond what she could have imagined.

Good story, terrible narration
Revisado: 10-28-15
This narrator is just awful! Sounds like a computer generated voice... weird inflection but monotone at the same time. Sounds like she's trying to talk over background noise or something. Avoid if possible.

Ron Perlman is an amazing man
Revisado: 10-29-14
Excellent book and reading! His gruff, foul mouthed exterior hides the soft, intelligent interior of Ron Perlman. It's funny to hear such truths about human existence peppered with MF's. His thoughts about SOA made me a little sad. His final thoughts in chapter 25 about the current state of the world had me saying "Amen, brother." We no longer have heroes (that are worth looking up to), we don't have standards. Ron Perlman is a stand up guy, with a true heart, and real American values. Even if you don't know who he is, you should read this book. He's definitely a unique individual that is one of those people that makes you a better person just for knowing.

The narration was great, but the sound quality is horrible! It sounds like it was recorded in the 1800's. Great stories though.

Historia
Andrew Lang drew upon his classical learning to recreate the Greek myths for children. He follows Ulysses from his boyhood, thorugh the Trojan Wars, to his voyage to seek the son of Achilles. The story of Helen of Troy, and the Trojan Horse, is told with the pace of a modern adventure. Lang's collection of retold myths includes Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece, and recounts the lives and heroic deeds of two other major figures: Theseus, who slew the Minotaur; and Perseus, who freed the princess Andromeda as one of his many tests, with the helo of the gorgon's head. Perseus, Andromeda, and her parents, Cephus and Cassiopeia, are remembered in the constellations of the summer sky. Not only will theres tales bring to life for children of all ages the quest for good and the struggle against eveil embodied in the myths, they also reveal the roots of characters referenced throughout Western litereature from Shakespeare's time to the present day. In the true spirit of adventure, Lang dedicated his book to H. Rider Haggard.

Wow is this narrator awful! Between his accent, his terrible timing, and the sense of boredom he portrays, this was unbearable! Constant sighing in the middle of sentences like someone twisted his arm into doing this narration. TERRIBLE

This series is phenomenal!
Revisado: 10-02-14
This series is really great! I'm looking forward to going back and reading/listening to them again. Grover Gardner does a terrific job of narrating. He does good character voices, his voice is pleasant to listen to, his timing is terrific. My only negative comment is- although I realize this series is called The Hangman's Daughter- these books need less of the daughter, and more of the hangman! Magdalena and Simon are like Scooby-Doo with the idiotic way they're always running around, getting in everyone's business, screwing up, and bickering. Need more Kuisl- the hangman rocks! I guess the series is pretty historically accurate though, people were idiots back then. Every time anything bad happens, it's "the devil!" and the ignorant townspeople rise up in arms without any consideration or logic. It makes my blood boil when there's a part where the townspeople are accusing or harassing the Hangman and his family just for doing the job the townspeople hired them to do. But, those were the times, and that's good writing by the author!

Come on, James..
Revisado: 09-09-14
Would you try another book from Jim Butcher and/or James Marsters?
Jim Butcher, yes. James Marsters, never.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Did he have a cold at the time? or what? The constant heavy breathing and lip smacking.. I swear I heard him try to ease his dry mouth by drinking.. then the swallowing and the lip smacking. Come on, James, you're a professional. What, did someone force you into doing this? Were you not aware that you were being recorded?

Aptly narrated, poorly written
Revisado: 09-03-14
What would have made Dawn of Swords better?
Less bible rip-off, less sex, more character development, more action.
What could David Dalglish and Robert J. Duperre have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stop using common modern references! This makes no sense! They use references that should not, or don't exist in the world they created.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yup
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disgust. This seemed to have a lot of promise as a story, but devolved into a mess of confusion and sex and bible stories.
Any additional comments?
What was the point of this story?? I would love to rewrite this story, taking the premise and making something that's actually worth reading/listening to.

Not bad - Not great
Revisado: 08-06-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe to read, but not to listen to. Probably not - on both.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
No. Nothing really happened for quite awhile. Just confusion and frustration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I hate the way he does voices. All the women are dopey and have a lisp as if he's doing an impersonation of a very camp gay. Maybe all the women in this book really are that way. But it's irritating. Same with the old people.
