Historia
In true Dickensian fashion, The Old Curiosity Shop offers a humorous yet devastating depiction of both the most honourable and most corrupt members of 19th-century English society. Hailed by Queen Victoria as being ‘interesting and cleverly written', The Old Curiosity Shop introduces listeners to the uniquely colourful characters of Nell Trent, her young friend, Kit, her doting grandfather and the evil moneylender to whom they all fall prey, Daniel Quilp.

Better Than Expected!
Revisado: 06-27-23
I was unsure what to expect based on the title as I hadn’t heard of this Dickens story before. I like to jump into stories without knowing anything about them; I find myself more engaged this way. I’m glad I stuck to my usual formula with this tale! Dickens is a master! His descriptive abilities and his insight into human behavior gives the listener a fast paced and clever story with wonderful characters that are woven together seamlessly. The narration was solid and well acted with character voices that made me shiver and completely dislike some of the characters. Quillp’s (sp) laugh was especially creepy!

The stilted and exaggerated voices.
Revisado: 04-04-23
The voices were too stilted and it made the story less enjoyable. Too bad too, as the story line is grand.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Clever and Funny!
Revisado: 02-25-23
This was an exceedingly wonderful listen! The mix between history and fiction so cleverly intertwined by Jonasson shows a storyboard so wonderfully planned. I rooted for Alan and his gang and laughed out loud many times due to not only the writing, but the delivery of Crossley as well. I can’t wait to listen to the next book!

In an all-new novella in E.J. Copperman’s “funny, charming, and thoroughly enjoyable” ( Spinetingler Magazine) series, the storm of the century bears down on the haunted guesthouse, and stirs up a gale of memories for a troubled ghost. Haunted guesthouse owner Alison Kerby may have only recently discovered her ability to communicate with ghosts, but for her mother Loretta, it’s been a lifelong gift.

Thank You E.J. Copperman
Revisado: 02-10-23
I have been listening to this series straight through and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard. The stories are quick, clever, funny, and engaging. The characters are well flushed out and amusing, with back stories that are added to in each successive book. Life can be messy, and each character shows that through their faults and qualities which makes for interesting and well rounded characters. Being from Eastern Pennsylvania and having spent much time “down the shore” I find the voices performed totally fitting…and take the shots at P.A. drivers well since P.A. drivers think N.J. drivers are the worst!!
What I really appreciate about this story, and what made me finally write a review was its connection to Vietnam…and those who were left behind but never forgotten. Wars are not taught well at all in schools and when they are the narrative is one of “good verses bad”, never allowing for the incredible stories of the individuals who fought in them to be told. This one short book written with respect and clearly researched is a wonderful way to share a story with an audience who might not have otherwise thought much about its subject. I truly thank E.J Copperman for giving readers a small glimpse into a real person who, other than his family and brothers in arms, has most likely not been thought of or read about in decades. The website for more information at the end was the absolute clincher for me. Well done E. J. Copperman- thank you!!

In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 02-05-23
Having not read this classic when I was younger, I felt I should give it a listen. It was a quaint story with all the right pieces; sadness, laughter, fear, happiness, anger, and hope. I cheered for Anne as she grew up and throughly enjoyed her ability to plow ahead through imagination and determination.
The reason for the low score: I am sorely disappointed in the narration. There were no character voice changes leading to a very bland listen. I found myself spacing out at times and having to rewind because I was not as fully engaged with the characters as I feel I could have been. I wish I had read the book instead of listening to it.

SO GREAT!!
Revisado: 01-24-23
Clever…chuckle inducing…fast paced…wonderful voice acting-what else does one need?!?! After listening to two entire series set in England and Scotland, it is refreshing to find a series based in the United States. The characters are so wonderfully written and so fantastically performed that I feel like I truly am right along for every twist set before me. The magic tricks intertwine so well with the multiple story lines that I find myself wishing I were a magician, or at least watching a show! Well worth the listen!!

Another Great Tale From M.C. Beaton!
Revisado: 12-24-22
After listening to more than a few of Mrs. Beaton’s Edwardian love stories, it was nice to come back to the antics of the Poor Relations! The characters are well written and really do behave as a family. While there is still a love story, it isn’t sappy because it is wound within many other funny, clever, and interesting plots. Well written and well narrated!

Another Beaton Triumph!
Revisado: 12-21-22
After listening to the Agatha Raisin series straight through I felt as if no other series would do. While no characters will EVER compare with Agatha and her supporting cast, this brief series was a welcome addition to my listening pleasure. Rose is as strong willed as Agatha, at least as much as she can be while being forced to wear a corset! The bond between Rose and Daisy was a joy to be a part of and then there’s good old Harry-the only counterpart I could ever see for Rose. I truly enjoy strong willed female characters and I certainly found two in this cozy mystery series written by the queen of well told stories!

Historia
Miss Honaria Honeyford was sent to London to save the family fortune by hunting a wealthy husband - and being a loving (if not entirely dutiful) daughter, she obeyed. But if she was reluctantly willing to surrender her hand, this beautiful young lady who could ride, shoot, and argue with any man was not about to lose her head or heart to the dismal dandies of the Marriage Mart. First she met the arrogantly attractive Lord Alistair Stewart, who treated her infuriatingly like a little girl. And then she met the skillfully seductive Lord Channington, who treated her intoxicatingly like a desirable woman....

Revisado: 12-10-22
After listening to the Agatha Raisin series one after the other and enjoying the stories so much, I decided to try another M.C. Beaton story. While I appreciate Honey’s independent spirit and fierce determination, the story ended up flat in comparison to Agatha. I will try other stories by Ms. Beaton but I fear none will match Agatha and cast.
