Overlong and underwritten
Revisado: 08-14-23
I really enjoyed the Rising trilogy. I can appreciate the attempt to show how heroes can become monsters if they’re not careful. What I can’t abide is poor story and magically omniscient diablos ex machina. By the end, either the antagonists are such peerless geniuses they actually should be in charge, or we have to say Mr. Brown fell to the modern mistake of thinking the protagonist had to absolutely fail at all things for there to be any sense of fulfillment in their eventual victory.
This isn’t gritty realism. The back and forth of the first trilogy is far more realistic.
I sincerely hope he corrects in the next volume and writes a story with stakes and not so terribly predictable.

A Surprise Servant Leader Manual
Revisado: 12-09-21
This book is one I would recommend to everyone, as it dispels many myths about military experience and what it means to be a good leader. In this book the authors take their experience from a war zone and show how to apply the fundamental truths they learned there, and that those truths are eternal. The most important truth in the book “Extreme Ownership” is that the greatest leaders always act with a heart of a servant. Their most basic laws come down to “take care of each other, check your ego, and do the right thing.” I don’t think that’s what a lot of people expect when they see the title or that this was written by military personnel, which is why I would recommend this book to everyone. This book will deepen your understanding of what it means to be a real leader, a good leader, and just a good person. This work will also deepen your understanding of what it truly means to serve, whether to nation (as has these authors have done), or your company (as a lot of folks who will be buying this book are likely looking to do). The truths in book have applications in all aspects of life. This book talks about fundamental truths and how we act when we apply them in our life. It is a wonderful read for everyone, whether you’re leading a fortune 500 company, or just your own family and friends, this book is worth the reading (or listening as the case may be).

The Imitation of Christ is one of the great spiritual classics of Christianity. Dr. Creasy's new reading of Thomas A Kempis' 1441 Latin Autograph Manuscript has become "the standard translation of this spiritual classic." The printed trade edition has been a best seller and was chosen as a Book of the Month Club selection. It remains an essential spiritual work for contemporary readers. This audio version read by Don Ranson captures the intimacy and depth of this superb translation.

There is great wisdom here, in clear language.
Revisado: 07-31-19
There is great wisdom in this book, more than enough to justify its perpetual best seller status. The reason to buy this edition over others is its use of clear English over all the "thee and thou" that cloud the original author's intent.
The first three books are amazing. The fourth is more dogma than divinely inspired. It is all worth an honest listen.

In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world.

A Beautiful Renewal for the New Millennium
Revisado: 06-19-19
If you have been hurt by Christian or know someone who has get this book. This book heels so many wounds and the universal body of Christ.
This book reclaims Christ from the legalists and the power hungry we'll try to co-opt and corrupt a simple message of love that God taught. This what is the answer and the antidote 2 almost a thousand years of needless and often evil legalism power grabs and fear-based teachings.

It's a plum, but with a lot of pudding.
Revisado: 06-11-19
Mr. Sullivan's story has a great core, and moments of real emotion. I mean moments where I almost teared up. Almost. Almost because those moments are too often buried in between bloat and bother which make you think he's getting paid by the word. Which is a shame, because as annoying as the unnecessary rambling is, I still stuck through. Wraith and Surrey earned that.
I don't know that Mr. Sullivan, on the other hand, has earned any more of my time.

Historia
In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within. Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?

Too clever by a half
Revisado: 03-13-19
This is an okay fantasy novel. It has an interesting story. It has a cute conceit.
The the issue with the novel is that the author tries to be too complete. he tries to make his heroines to perfect. what he ends up with is the impossibility of two people inventing the entirety of the modern world. it stretches suspension of disbelief beyond what is possible. it also stretches this novel to an unwieldy length.

And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

Dhammapada means "the path of dharma", the path of harmony and righteousness that anyone can follow to reach the highest good. This classic Buddhist scripture is a collection of vivid, practical verses gathered from direct disciples who wanted to preserve what they had heard from the Buddha himself. Easwaran's translation of this classic Buddhist text is the best-selling translation in the US.

A great translation of a spiritual classic. It's clear, as only a translation from a native speaker could be. This book uses beautiful metaphors to illuminate deep and practical truth.
