Historia
Ikigai is a Japanese phenomenon commonly understood as "your reason to get up in the morning". Ikigai can be small moments: the morning air, a cup of coffee, a compliment. It can also be deep convictions: a fulfilling job, lasting friendships, balanced health. Whether big or small, your ikigai is the path to success and happiness in your own life. Author Ken Mogi introduces five pillars of ikigai to help you make the most of each day and become your most authentic self.

Good but not enough Ikigai
Revisado: 12-17-18
I enjoyed this book. The narration was excellent. The book was interesting. However, I bought it to learn more about Ikigai. It does cover that, but I think it gets a bit lost in the details of Japanese society. I felt I learned more about Japan than Ikigai by the end.

great story, needed a different narrator
Revisado: 09-19-18
I read this novel a while ago and loved it. I was excited to see it as an audiobook. Unfortunately, this narrator was not a good choice. He has a very pleasant, clear voice. However, this is not his genre. He's clearly reading it and not bringing it to life. I did speed it up a tiny bit which helps. If they continue with other audiobooks in the series, I hope they choose another narrator. I think this narrator is better suited to other genres.

Historia
Peter Walsh, the bestselling author of It's All Too Much, believes that the secret to successfully losing weight is to forget about calorie counting and weekly weigh-ins. Instead, you need to focus on how, why, and where you eat. When it comes to clearing clutter (the fat in our homes), it isn't about the stuff itself, it's about the life you want to live. The same is true for losing weight: It's not about the pounds, it's about living the life you deserve in the body you want.

I got a lot out of this book. I'm glad that Peter Walsh was the narrator. He does the best at narrating his own books. He just has warmth and caring in his voice that is helpful when dealing with subjects like clutter of all kinds.

Any additional comments?
I had bought the ebook of this a while ago, but for some reason just couldn't get into it. Then I saw it on audiobook and thought I would try it. The narrator really brought it to life for me. The story was very well done. I've read a few books that were preachy about how difficult and dangerous it is to be gay, but this story just brought you into the characters and their circumstances and let the reality speak for itself. It was very powerfully and effectively done. The characters are compelling as is the time period.

Too much time spent explaining
Revisado: 10-17-16
Any additional comments?
This book had some good elements about it and a lot of potential. The characters were interesting. However, I feel at least 70% of the time the author was just explaining things. She did work most of it into the dialogue, but it was still too much explanation. The narration was good, and probably the only reason I kept listening even though he did mispronounce a few words.

enjoyable but could have been better
Revisado: 10-10-16
Any additional comments?
This book would have been better if it was shorter and thus quicker paced. I think the whole first hour was just back story, and there continued to be a lot of that throughout the story. I enjoyed the narrator, but he needs to do more to distinguish the characters. A few times I caught myself wondering which character was supposed to be doing the speaking.

There were parts of this book where the banter got to be too much and too silly for me, but then there would be a passage that redeemed it. Overall, I did enjoy the book. The narration was excellent. All the characters had very distinct voices, and their personalities came through in the narration.

John Charming isn't your average prince... He comes from a line of Charmings - an illustrious family of dragon slayers, witch-finders and killers dating back to before the fall of Rome. Trained by a modern day version of the Knights Templar, monster hunters who have updated their methods from chain mail and crossbows to Kevlar and shotguns, John Charming was one of the best-until a curse made him one of the abominations the Knights were sworn to hunt.

Too much explaining
Revisado: 04-12-16
Any additional comments?
The story itself is a good one, and the characters are interesting. However, I gave the story a 3 because the author keeps stopping to explain this or that aspect of the world he's created. Its like having to stop and read footnotes constantly. I credit the narrator with keeping me "in the story" as much as possible.

This is not the kind of story that I usually like. The hero is an anti-hero. He's pretty evil. Yet I found it well written and intriguing. The narration was excellent and helped to draw me into the story even though the hero was not really likable. I would recommend it, and I plan to get the next in the series.
