Historia
It's 2014. Newly engaged Dr. Quinn Allenby is called upon to examine the skeletal remains of a woman and child found buried naked and facedown in unconsecrated ground on the fringes of a leper cemetery. Quinn must use her psychic gift to unearth the secrets that led to the death of the victims and to discover why the deceased were denied a Christian burial and humiliated even in death. But as Quinn delves into this disturbing new case, she must confront secrets that have the power to destroy her future with Gabe, while others may finally shed light on her true parentage.

Gave up after chapter 30
Revisado: 04-28-25
Wasted too much time on relationship and child issues. Quinn’s voice too soft and childish for the character. The bones investigation never came and I got bored after 30 chapters.

Historia
Punching well above their weight, Max and Markham set out to bring down a sinister organisation founded in the future—with a suspicious focus on the past. Max's focus is staying alive long enough to reunite with Leon and Matthew, alternately helped and hindered by St Mary's—who aren't always the blessing they like to think they are. But non-stop leaping around the timeline—from witnessing Magna Carta to disturbing a certain young man with a penchant for gunpowder—is beginning to take its toll. Is Max going mad? Or are the ghosts of the past finally catching up with her?

The background history and geography was the only thing that kept me reading.
Nothing interesting happens for practically the entire book and whatever happens is childish and predictable.

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Best book I've listened to in years!
Revisado: 07-17-17
Engaging writing, great narration and a most unusual story of an aristocrat keeping his chin up and surviving, after his detention and the destruction of his entire life. Even the description of non essential events to the main story are so beautifully written that you seem transported to the small world of Alexander Rostov. Long but very enjoyable.

Should have been called "Sophie"
Revisado: 04-20-17
I grew up delighted by the sweet and fairy tale style "Sissi" films with Romy Schneider. As an adult, grew interested by the connection with the tragedies of Mayerling, death of Francis Ferdinand and assassination of Empress Elizabeth. In spite of all this, I struggled trying to finish this "romance novel". Grew tired of Sophie, the witch, Franz, mamma's boy and poor suffering Sissi.
Too bad, it's really an interesting part of history.

Historia
They were the Princess Dianas of their day—perhaps the most photographed and talked about young royals of the early twentieth century. The four captivating Russian Grand Duchesses—Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia Romanov—were much admired for their happy dispositions, their looks, the clothes they wore and their privileged lifestyle. Over the years, the story of the four Romanov sisters and their tragic end in a basement at Ekaterinburg in 1918 has clouded our view of them, leading to a mass of sentimental and idealized hagiography.

Bittersweet
Revisado: 08-01-16
I read "Nicholas and Alexandra" many years ago and became fascinated by the Romanov family. The lives of Peter, Catherine, Russka,(by Edward Rutherfurd), etc. followed. Recently, I was lucky to visit their three magnificent palaces and sadly also, their tombs. This account of their lives was even more moving to me, hearing their own words through their letters. Russia was ripe for a revolution at that time, but their ineptitude, superstition, isolation from reality surely did not help in their tragic end. These girls (and Alex) lived a "bittersweet" short life in their gilded palaces and it would not be fair to criticise their lives with our 21st century knowledge.

Historia
Glamorous and predatory, the Borgias fascinated and terrorized 15th-century Renaissance Italy, and Lucrezia Borgia, beloved daughter of the pope, was at the center of the dynasty's ambitions. Slandered as a heartless seductress who lured men to their doom, was she in fact the villainess of legend, or was she trapped in a familial web, forced to choose between loyalty and survival?

Kept me interested.
Revisado: 07-14-16
I've said this before : a lot of people forget that this is HISTORICAL FICTION, not a History book. You can read ten biographies of the Borgias and you will find ten different versions of the facts and character of this very interesting family. We will never know exactly what happened, like many other events of the past.
I enjoyed the book and I think the narrator did a good job.

Disappointed
Revisado: 03-10-16
It took forever to introduce the many characters, (I had not read the prior two books), and then, the blood, gore, torture of every kind starts and it seems to never end. Predictable end, typical of many other gory novels. The narrator tries his best, only to sound like an old radio scary program. No more of Kilborn!
