Historia
Jonathan Thomas Meriweather is a typical college student, interested in girls, music, and an occasional taste of reefer. But when a journey through an interdimensional portal lands him in a world of talking animals and ominous sorcery, he finds he is on a very different trip indeed. Here, when he plays a strange instrument called a duar, peculiar things happen: powerful magic that may be the only way to stop a dark force that threatens his new world — and his old one.

First book from Alan Dean Foster...
Revisado: 04-13-24
First book from Alan Dean Foster that I did not like.
Why?
They decided to give the main character a musical instrument. Finding a bag with the required musical instrument by the side of the road is just lazy writing. It would have made more sense for the bag to be discovered in the wagon they stole. The bag could have a valid reason being in the wagon then some random spot.
Why is everyone they meet hostile to the group? The group tried to get a ride on a passing river barge. Not only did the barge crew not talk to them. They also fired arrows. When the group gets to the city, the city guards bully them into paying a high fee before being allowed into the city.
The hostility was required to introduce the dragon... Why did they make the dragon a Marxist?

Historia
It wasn’t until I lost everything—my home, my marriage, even my career—that I started to wonder if our “family curse” might be more than an unfortunate turn of phrase. Now turning forty-five, the age at which every woman in my family dies, I need answers not only for myself but for my two daughters. And I’ll see every specialist in the country if that’s what it takes. But when a lifelong friend discovers a link between my strange family history and an abandoned estate, I can't pass up the opportunity to learn what happened before the death certificates started piling up.

Interesting/ Entertaining but...
Revisado: 04-04-24
The story was very slow. Over half of the book was the main character doubting that she was the heir of the estate.
There are to many minor characters. I'm bad with names which made it hard for me to keep track of them all.
I did finished and enjoyed the book. I dont think I will get the next one.

The ghost was only a small part of the story. I like how they helped the Leigh deal with the death of her parents. Not a fan on how they transfer knowledge on how to fight....

Historia
Having somehow convinced Lady Annika Jenoure to marry him, all Finlay Ashowan wants to do is settle down, cook some good meals, and enjoy a quiet life in Daxaria. But fate has different plans. Fin’s father, Aidan Helmer, fire witch and servant of King Matthias of Troivack, has arrived in the kingdom with devastating news: Annika’s brother Charles has been taken prisoner, and the only way his life will be spared is if Annika or Fin goes to plead his case. Given that an attack from Troivack is imminent, there’s no way some trickery isn’t involved in this plot.

The long awaited war as meh
Revisado: 10-25-23
I like the first two books: Good story, great character building, nice humor, an interesting lore about magic, and the buildup for the upcoming war.
Most of the third book was setting the stage for the war but not much going on... The war itself is more about the house witch father attacking the castle solo with his familiar and being a bully.
The one star for the performance is due to the change of the voice of the cat. The voice went from a young energetic to a monotone condescending cat.

The enemy unknowingly opened a portal to the Netherworld, and our world’s only wizard somehow managed to close it. Unfortunately, something got through. Something big. A dragon. Now Kaz Wolfe, with help from his dog Duke who is channeling the spirit of a wizard from ancient Babylon, and with no help from Azib the Cowardly Genie, must find the dragon before someone gets a cellphone video of the thing, and the world learns that magic is real. Or, you know, before the dragon eats someone.

To much filler and not enough story
Revisado: 10-24-23
There is to much one on one dialog between the main character and one of the other members in the group. Kaz talks to the dog, Kaz talks to the cat, Kaz talks to the jinn, and Kaz talks to one of the knights. I found these talks nice but there are to many of them. It felt these "talks" took most of the book before dealing with the main story.
This is the same story telling format as "Expeditionary Force" which I also liked... but still has to many one on one dialog. This time the talks are between Joe Bishop and Skippy.
R.C. Bray does an excellent job as narrator.

Historia
All life on Earth has been stolen away by The System. It was transported to another world at the behest of a distant galactic empire that lives in terror of humanity's potential. Ben - just a normal, if not slightly above average guy - had been about to go on the first real vacation of his adult life. But plans changed. Now, he must contend with danger and mystery in a world full of monsters, magic, and treasure. Armed with nothing but his wits and a special item given to him by The System, he embarks on a damn good adventure.

Not bad but not good
Revisado: 06-12-23
Story telling and narration is good. But, there is no plot. There is a overall story arc but the book was more of a couple of random encounter with the main character getting into trouble and finding a way to get out of it or running away.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Revisado: 01-05-23
First half of book was boring. Just talk between Bishop and Skippy. Does nothing to add to the story.
Second half of book, they get an idea to save the day. It felt rushed with only half the book to do anything,
Should the series end? Yes... Should it end here? Not sure. Using the same formula for each book is meh....

Nine hundred light-years from home, Major Andrew Grayson and the crew of NACS Washington are marooned in a sunless system with limited water, reactor fuel, and food. The last hope for survival is to go where nothing human has gone before. After embarking on a scouting mission to the only moon with surface signs of life, Andrew and his Special Tactics Team make two startling discoveries. One is a dream: a form of protein and plant life that could save the starving humans in the rogue system. The second is a nightmare: this harvested rock is infested with Lankies.
