Worst English accent since Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Sounds like no accent I've ever heard. Narrator (who is female for both parts) only uses it for the male parts, but that's about half the book being rendered horrible. It's hard to get past this to get into the story--when narrator announces "Victor" for the next chapter, I want to fast forward. The story is OK, a bit more real--more gritty-- than many rockstar romances. The rockstar's history is actually as bad as reported--drug abuse, etc.--so that's kind of refreshing. Perhaps his drug addictions messed up his accent. The heroine is decently presented, and, strangely, the narration for her parts are pretty good. This book really needs a do-over with a male with a decent accent. Incidentally, all the reviews of this reading from actual English people are just as scathing.

First, I hate the ‘I don’t need a man in my child’s life’. Second, I can’t believe the hero, who a big deal is made of how much he loves kids, would be ok with having nothing to do with his kid. If heroine is so bent out of shape about being 30–near death—I can’t imagine the kind of mother she will be. I couldn’t finish the book. Ugh…

Narrator has odd accent for main character. Very annoying. Story is good, entertaining series. Best to read books in order.

It is interesting to listen to this book in the current climate of Hollywood and the #metoo movement. The narrator's tone was very condescending regarding "church ladies"--perhaps this is the intent of the author--who express concern about the morality of Hollywood. Seems we're getting the same criticism, but from the women of Hollywood themselves. Perhaps the "church ladies" were on the right side all along!

Not a bad story, but much, much different from the first two books in the series. First, much more tame in the bedroom department. Then there’s the ‘what are the odds’ plot twists, which seemed very contrived (I mean, NYC is simply teeming with people...). Finally, the reality tv show that was prominent I. The first two books is nearly nonexistent in this one. Not sure why they called him dr. Neurotic.

Book completely changes direction midstream. Not in a good way. Not to give away the plot, but story takes a very violent, and out of place, turn about halfway through. If you like your romances with beatings, stabbing, nd gunshots, with a touch of sex trafficking this may be for you.

What did you like best about First Star I See Tonight? What did you like least?

This books was more like the older Chicago Stars books, which I enjoyed. No excessive involvement in other characters. One big issue for me--did the author forget her previous books? When she mentions characters from the original series, she names the players and the women they married. Among them, Kevin married "a children's book author". Does Phillips not remember that this is the sister of the heroine from the first Stars book, and owner of the team? This was a huge plot device, and I can't believe that no mention was made of it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nicole Poole’s performances?

Possible. However, she needs to brush up her pronunciation. "MAJ Mile"!! Really!?! (It's MAG MILE, as in Magnificent, not MAJ mile as in Magic. Sheesh...There were a few others, too. Generally, though, she did a decent job of distinctive voices for the different characters. But if you're gonna do Chicago, please learn how to pronounce it's landmarks.

Stacey is my favorite author, and this book doesn't disappoint. This narrator is also one of the best. Highest recommendation.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't think anyone would enjoy this book with this narrator.

Has Candy Cane Kisses turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not other books, but certainly other books by this author and narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her pronunciation and enunciation were awful. Example she says nothing as "no thing".

What character would you cut from Candy Cane Kisses?

No characters were annoying or overused.

Would you try another book from Sharon Kleve and/or Christy Williamson?

Author is OK, lightweight brief story. However, the narrator totally ruins the experience.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sharon Kleve again?

Sure, if I didn't pay too much.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Story was mildly entertaining. Nothing special, but an OK way to listen to in the background while doing something else. I like the Christmas business aspect; very reminiscent of Nora Roberts Bride series.

Any additional comments?

Seriously, check out the narrator on other books--universally awful reviews!
