Historia
i>Imagined Communities, Benedict Anderson's brilliant book on nationalism, forged a new field of study when it first appeared in 1983. Since then it has sold over a quarter of a million copies and is widely considered the most important book on the subject. In this greatly anticipated revised edition, Anderson updates and elaborates on the core question: What makes people live and die for nations, as well as hate and kill in their names?

Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

Historia
Mitza Maric has always been a little different from other girls. Most 20-year-olds are wives by now, not studying physics at an elite Zurich university with only male students trying to outdo her clever calculations. But Mitza is smart enough to know that, for her, math is an easier path than marriage. And then fellow student Albert Einstein takes an interest in her, and the world turns sideways. Theirs becomes a partnership of the mind and of the heart, but there might not be room for more than one genius in a marriage.

This is not a biography
Revisado: 08-25-24
Perhaps if you are a feminist and you wish to strike one for the girls then this is the book for you. The author note states she did not intend to detract from Einstein Legacy but quite specifically did that. My research tho brief into whether the story is based on fact suggest otherwise. Einsteins letters to his colleagues seem to suggest he was the driving force of his discovery and invention. As well as his “layman’s book “ he wrote . Of course we cannot be sure that she didn’t play a specific enlarge part in the development of the theory and perhaps that is the reason the author took the liberty to craft a study showing that Einstein was a bit of a charlatan.
For this reason I sped through the book but wouldn’t really recommend it to a serious science loving Reader.

Historia
On the morning of August 12, 2022, Salman Rushdie was standing onstage at the Chautauqua Institution, preparing to give a lecture on the importance of keeping writers safe from harm, when a man in black—black clothes, black mask—rushed down the aisle toward him, wielding a knife. His first thought: So it’s you. Here you are. What followed was a horrific act of violence that shook the literary world and beyond.

Intimate encounter
Revisado: 06-28-24
To be honest, just as Salman Rushdie suggested, i knew more about the book that I hadn’t read (the satanic verses) that I should admit.
His name to me was associated with the book and I thought I may as well give a shot to hear more about thischap. And you cannot but end the book with a deep respect and, sense of friendship and admiration for this unique person who is so kind and thoughtful and educated And so able to communicate with his readers. Now, I am definitely going to read one or more other of his books. If you have not read any others I would suggest that this is one you should read in order to get to know the person. I feel I have had the opportunity to meet a real human being that I would choose to introduce an alien race as a representative of the best of us. His writing is amazing, his narrating is superb, and I thoroughly enjoyed this quality interesting lovely book.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Wonderful story and narration
A little predictable or formulaic however, that should not detract. Little bit like a lifetime movie. But also shines the light on terrible travesty of addiction but also shows post-traumatic growth can occur. And is clear that Hope always remains.

It has been two years since the events in Shantaram, and since Lin lost two people he had come to love: his father figure, Khaderbhai, and his soul mate, Karla, married to a handsome Indian media tycoon. Lin returns from a smuggling trip to a city that seems to have changed too much, too soon. Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life.

Transporting
Revisado: 12-16-22
Who ever would’ve thought that a book that was 40 hours could be as captivating, transporting as this one. The author is an absolute poet and a master of writing. The narrator is superb. So easy to listen to so amazing since he absolutely envelops you in the experience conjured by the author.
It is one of the very best audiobooks I have ever read.
I’m going to search for books by this author as well as books, narrated by this narrator.

Historia
Like many well-to-do Upper East Siders over the age of 65, esteemed art appraiser Percival Skinner had planned to spend his retirement living off his savings. But a market correction has left him living below his prior means. One day he’s visited by a dapper fixer in search of a famous work by a Renaissance master. Skinner knows the work well: The original was owned by his ancestor, and was passed down through his family over the generations. If, as an intermediary, he can coordinate a sale, a small fortune awaits. Problem is, he might not be the only one on the make.

Revisado: 02-22-22
If I could give the narrator six stars I would. Phenomenal. What a lovely transporting short journey of escapism. But then again if I could give the Author six stars I would do that too. What erudite elegant wonderful language he uses to paint a story more vivid probably than the picture about which the story revolves. I enjoyed it so much and wasn’t disappointed that it was a novella which I tend to avoid in general. Although I am not as educated as I would like to be, he has the talent and the creativity of someone like Somerset Maugham. How enjoyable! do yourself a favour It is wonderful.
