Historia
The best stories pull readers in and keep them turning the pages, eager to discover more—to find the answer to the question: "And then what happened?" The true hallmark of great literature is great imagination, and as Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio prove with this outstanding collection, when it comes to great fiction, all genres are equal.

Somewhat tedious?
Revisado: 06-13-22
it went about 5 chapters too long, and quite honestly the chapters from Zero's perspective were off-putting. maybe that's what the author wanted for the character, but it took a lot of perseverance to get through that section, and when Zero/Fanning finally was taken out, Cronin should have tidied up the story instead of dribbling it to a rather lame ending. Not a sweeping epic, but perhaps an okay read for a pandemic induced lockdown.

Disappointed listener
Revisado: 04-08-22
I love all of Neil Gaiman's novels until this. I guess listening to a graphic novel/comic was too much a stretch for older readers like me.

Needs multiple narrators
Revisado: 01-30-22
After the multiple narrators used in Chapterhouse Dune, I was disappointed and bored with only one narrator. Scott Brick is good, but a little pendantic at times and he uses very little change of pacing, vocal tone, or pitch to differentiate between characters. At times it felt like the whole book was direct characterization and a ponderous 3rd person point of view.

After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

Never Gets Old
Revisado: 05-07-21
Despite what others despairingly refer to as "rinse and repeat" plot, I love this series. Not only are the characters fresh, but I'm looking forward to the possibility of Skippy becoming human! The only thing I really hated was the audio goofs added after the book ended. Not funny when the increased and sudden volume of the sound effects made me jerk the steering wheel! 😶

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

Historical fiction with connection to the present
Revisado: 04-05-21
Jamie Ford has given us modern readers a rare novel that weaves historical fiction with character development, with the result being a book accessible all levels of readers: from to teens who love Romeo and Juliet to grannies who still recall food ration coupons to all of us who need to be reminded that bullying and attacks on Asian Americans is still a social justice issue. While an easy read, it will make you think, and my only regret is that Ford has not yet followed up with the next installment of his main character's story.
One note: unlike most Audible titles, you cannot easily jump to specific chapters in the novel. It is broken into only 3 or 4 "chapters' which actually have ten or more in each. This is where the bookmark tool is your friend if you are replaying the book in the future, but if you've lost your place or resumed listening on another device and wish to find a specific chapter, you're going to need a lot of patience to find it.

Historia
The narrator of Atwood's riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly?

I just couldn't keep listening; between the excruciatingly drawn out story and the narrator's monotone, I could only get in a few chapters before I wanted to throw my phone access the room. This one I plant to return!

Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Now Herbert's son, Brian, working with Kevin J. Anderson and using Frank Herbert's own notes, reveals a pivotal epoch in the history of the Dune universe: the Butlerian Jihad, the war that was fought ten thousand years before the events of Dune - the war in which humans wrested their freedom from "thinking machines."

Love the whole series, BUT this recording has broken down the book into only two chapters! It's like they took the cassette version from 30 years ago and simply transfered it to the audio version. If you forget to bookmark everytime you pause playback, it will begin from chapter 1 again. Gah!

Revisado: 07-27-19
I'm a huge fan of all things Dune, even the David Lynch movie and the Syfy tv series. However, this otherwise excellent audiobook has a major flaw: only two chapters! , the introduction and the rest of the book! I hope someone will fix this issue (I believe the original Herbert series had the correct number of chapters correlated to the print versions.)
The difficulty, of course, happens when a listener forgets to bookmark and closes the app. Upon returning to the story, I discovered that I had to fast forward through the entire book just to find where I left off. Someone please fix this or reissue an update of the book!

Superb storytelling
Revisado: 07-31-18
This is one of those occasions where a talented voice actor meets a superb storyteller, resulting in addictive, binge-worthy listening. The best part of this author-reader combo? There's two more books that follow and expand upon King's protagonists. Which character is the centerpiece of this series is up to you: Bill Hodges and 'good time' Jerome Robinson are solid without being too close to stereotype, but Holly Gibney knocked my socks off!
