Love this series
Revisado: 04-17-21
A happy shift for this series to leave the continent and go to India. Excellent writing and reader.
Two shifts. The story of Eloise seems to be diminishing, maybe because life with Colin is running out of plot. Both Freddy and Pen cheat on their marriage. For some that may be upsetting; for me it was more of a message of how India was treated as a world apart.

Historia
The death of Judd Foxman's father marks the first time that the entire Foxman family - including Judd's mother, brothers, and sister - have been together in years. Conspicuously absent: Judd's wife, Jen, whose 14-month affair with Judd's radio-shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public. Judd joins the rest of the Foxmans as they reluctantly submit to their patriarch's dying request: to spend the seven days following the funeral together.

After the candles scene, it’s all downhill
Revisado: 04-06-21
This is a book about a self indulgent, whiny guy who judges all women by whether he’s willing to have sex with them. Above a certain age, they’re too old for sex and, thus, must also be judged harshly based on age and looks. Thank goodness girls were off limits.
At the same time, he’s less attractive and certainly less charming than he realizes, making me wonder if his attractive wife is blind and deaf or just an idiot. Although the book is supposed to be about sitting shiva for the dead dad, it’s really not. It’s caustic criticism of women, some fun antics, a few moments of existentialism, and a lot of a narrator who is too oblivious to realize he’s a jerk. You’re supposed to root for him, but I was hoping for death or dismemberment of this fictional character.
I had hoped that the candle scene in the beginning, with its amazing comedic timing, was a hint of more to come. It wasn’t — it was the peak.

Blech DNF
Revisado: 03-28-21
It’s been a long time since I’ve DNF’d a book. And this is just so awful, despite stops and starts, I just can’t force myself to continue on listening to the h’s sniveling, cheating stupidity. The H isn’t a well developed character, probably because it would be hard to find someone realistic who would like h as a human being.

Slow start but became charming
Revisado: 01-14-19
I loved the first book and bought this one, the second in the series. It's a few months later, filming is over, and it's time for publicity and a premiere. For the first few chapters, I cringed every time I tried to listen to this book.
Happily, it turned into a charming romance with a HEA despite the hilariously evil shenanigans of Reed and Brooke.

Historia
Using a travel guide format, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee acts as tour guide extraordinaire, describing and critiquing every aspect of this territory she knows so well: its people (young and old, male and female), familiar phrases ("purl this, darn that"), strange beliefs, currency (skein trading), etiquette, holidays (any sale day at the local yarn shop), and customs. She notes important dates in knitting history and celebrates unsung knitting heroes.

As a Knitter, I laughed a lot and out loud while listening to this book. This is her funniest book. Not sure non-knitters would enjoy the humor.

Meh
Revisado: 04-19-17
This author has some good books, but this wasn't it. The H was mostly a jerk, wondering why everyone though his gruff judgments were off putting. The h was fine, but a little too much of a doormat for someone (competent) in the mental health profession.
The vocals were all over the map. The h is supposed to be from Charleston. While I don't know how that should sound, I know that the audio for h sometimes had a southern twang but mostly was the narrator's usual voice. The H's voice changed, too, sometimes being a deeper tone, other times the narrator's normal voice. Other people's accents changed, too (deMarco). Not sure why they bothered with accents and vocal changes when they were so inconsistent with them.

Revisado: 03-31-17
The h is an average 20something, and H is a star. I loved how normal h was in the beginning, mocking the crazy fan girls. Gradually, she became hysterical and irrational, just like the girls she mocked in the beginning. If I were the H, I'm not sure I would have stuck with her. If the last 1/3 of the book went away, I know I would have been a happier reader.

After after a few duds with good recommendations, it was a delight to listen to this book. Funny, believable and flawed characters -- in a way that is relatable and didn't make me want to repeatedly smack anyone for sheer stupidity.

Historia
The first in a sexy new series by Katy Evans, New York Times best-selling author of the REAL series... This is the story I’ve been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name, though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.

Lame story and a cliffhanger?!
Revisado: 04-19-16
This book is proof that no one should have to listen to a teenage girl's thoughts. Although this h is an adult, you wouldn't know it from her actions or internal thoughts.
She is a journalist with her "big" story of an expose on the H, the manwhore of the title. He works hard, makes tons of money, has an amazing body, and plays hard. But, rarely shows emotion. She jumps into working the story, without any obvious plan of getting more than a lame 10 min interview with the H. Then, when H is interested in her, she is oblivious for many chapters of the obvious ethics issues. And, how writing the story will end her relationship with H. Before she figured this out, I had moved her character from ridiculously naive to stupid. While that isn't quite how this cliffhanger ends, close enough for me to just let this h hang there.

Historia
I grew up wishing on stars. My father taught me to believe in destiny, in magic, in happily ever after. Dreams were my scripture and the starry night sky was my temple. Then mom stopped believing, left him, and took us with her. At the age of sixteen, I cashed in my dreams to pay the rent, pawned my destiny to keep my sisters together.

Awful
Revisado: 03-21-16
The listeners are supposed to feel sorry for the h because she had a druggie/hooker mom, raised two sisters with illegal work, dumped the love of her life, and is trying to avoid her former boyfriend/pimp who is also a jewel thief. She wanders back into her childhood home town and spends so much time feeling sorry for herself that there is little room for any other plot. The metaphors for being sick to her stomach outnumber her interactions with the H. With all the lying the h does to cover her past, the H looks like a complete patsy.
