listened to the Conyers stuff 3 times...
Revisado: 03-26-24
I enjoyed the book, but I am a fan of David Conyers, so his work is what hit me. Having followed Harrison Peel on so many mindbending adventures, Im not sure how to feel about this story's ending.
Infinite Horror or Infinite Bliss? Leaving me to decide in which this version of Harrison will spend eternity, is a dirty trick. it's a cold, unfeeling, indifferent universe where none of the outer gods or ultimate races care about humanity in the least. I like to think that Conyers is the Top of that Pyramid of entities for this lore's universe and he actually did have a soft spot for Harrison. Peel deserved a break.

Historia
From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

Historia
Strange things exist on the periphery of our existence, haunting us from the darkness looming beyond our firelight. Black magic, weird cults, and worse things loom in the shadows. The Children of Old Leech have been with us from time immemorial. And they love us.... Donald Miller, geologist and academic, has walked along the edge of a chasm for most of his nearly 80 years, leading a charmed life between endearing absent-mindedness and sanity-shattering realization. Now, all things must converge.

Narrator was a Horrible Choice for this book.
Revisado: 12-02-20
The story is a masterpiece in Cosmic Horror.
The problem is, the teenage girl that voiced the book, killed the mood and immersion. Listening to her give her impression of male voices, turned potentially tense, powerful, terrifying conversations, into comedy relief.
SJW curse abounds. Why a young woman was chosen for a book that featured mainly masculine characters, defies logic.
A shame.

Historia
With the failure of Hadley's Hope, Weyland-Yutani has suffered a devastating setback - the loss of the Aliens they aggressively sought to exploit. Yet there's a reason the Company has risen to the top of the food chain. True to form, they have a redundancy already in place: the facility known as "The Cold Forge". Remote station RB-232 has become their greatest asset in weaponizing the Xenomorphs. However, when Dorian Sudler is sent to RB-232 to assess their progress, he discovers that there's a spy aboard - someone who doesn't necessarily act in the company's best interests.

Still no Male Heroes allowed in Alien Novels.
Revisado: 02-27-20
Agenda, agenda, agenda. Mary Sue, Mary Sue, men r bad. Men r Evil , Abusive and Weak.
Preach, Preach, Women Smarter and Tougher.
The Antagonist was the best part of this book. Comes an inch away from being an "Anti Hero".
But that's not allowed.

Historia
Brothers Macbeth and Drederick Tooms should have it made as fair-haired scions of an impossibly rich and powerful family of industrialists. Alas, life is complicated in mid-1950s USA when you're child heirs to the throne of Sword Enterprises, a corporation that has enshrined Machiavelli's The Prince as its operating manual. Consider also those long, cruel winters at the Mountain Leopard Boarding School for Assassins in the Himalayas, or that Dad may be a supervillain, while an uncle occasionally slaughters his nephews and nieces for sport.

SWJ Garbage
Revisado: 08-31-19
There was never any reason to use the Alien brand as a tool for Strong Women Awareness.
Apparently, the Liberal Zombies who shat out this story, have never actually SEEN an Alien movie. Because, if they had, they would have known that it already featured the ongoing adventures of THE most baddass, emotionally strong, fearless, intelligent, capable Female Protagonist anywhere.
Ellen Ripley
And she has been around since 1979.
nobody raised a fuss and she was universally accepted as a "hero".
Sooooo... that being said, I couldnt help but notice:
1. That the only 3 male characters in the book, were human garbage.
A drunken, lazy, abusive Step Father.
A nasty, cold-blooded killer.
A member of a ship's crew who was lazy, stupid, disrespectful and had no business operating a space fairing vessel.
2. Then there r the women.
every woman in the book waa either a high ranking military officer and commander of a star ship, an important legal rep from WY, or a savant who could build a star ship better than the actual engineers. She is a gifted mechanical tech who can do EVERYTHING better than the non-deserving men in her place. Also, Ripley, turns out to have stopped a terrorist attack, all by herself.
I couldnt finish the story.

Historia
In this powerhouse of suspense - as brilliantly imagined as Jurassic Park and The Ruins - scientists have made a startling discovery: A fragment of a lost continent, an island with an ecosystem unlike any they’ve seen before...an ecosystem that could topple ours like a house of cards. The time is now. The place is the Trident, a long-range research vessel hired by the reality TV show Sealife. Aboard is a cast of ambitious young scientists. With a director dying for drama, tiny Henders Island might be just what the show needs.

THAT was what I have been looking for!
Revisado: 01-09-17
This book satisfied in every way. I am not going to give away a single detail, so T S.
I am a 6 to 7 book per week reader of hard sci-fi, hardest horror, darkest fantasy, yada, yada, yada.
I devour them, and rarely am I satisfied.
Formula, formula, formula. No talent, no imagination, no business wasting my damn time with extremely weak stories.
But, THIS... This book made me feel the same way I felt years ago, while discovering the great ones. Starship Troopers, Ender's Game, etc.
I will just say this... Do yourself a favor. Take a ride in this friggin' book.
Now, get outta my face.
