They knew the barriers that divided them - some physical landmarks and some hidden in the heart - but those barriers melted away when the boys were on the court.

Not perfect writing or reading, but definitely an overall 5 as an inspirational story, performance,and message: very well done. Definitely recommended to varied audiences. Readers diverse in all areas can appreciate this one. It WILL bring you to tears.

Now one of the top 3 novels I’ve read in my 64 years.
Captivating story line. Developed and imperfect, but heroic characters. Relationships instead of romances. Artful use of science, of the search for Truth (a springboard to Truth…) and of foreshadowing. Some memorable, beautifully written lines. And Oh, Adventure!

There are so many themes, and so much Truth in this tale. Pittman presents a new perspective on the French Revolution through characters that are heartbreakingly human.

Because this book is based on Livingston’s journals, it is direct and fair. The famous Scot is fleshed out and followed through 5 decades or so of dedication to the cause of exploration, but more than that, emancipation and salvation.
