Hard justice
Revisado: 01-05-25
This is indeed the Peaky Blinders in book with some magic. It’s extremely grim dark fantasy, very British style not American for sure. The writing and the situation has its dark humor and that’s it, it’s not like Joe Abercrombie with his witty voices. It’s darker but again, the Peaky Blinders style dark situations have its reasons to simile on. The story is a proper first book to open it to a greater political intrigue. Fun.

Wonderful introduction to the series. Her command on the language only can be compared to Steven Erikson or Robin Hobb. We can feel that she knows about what she read (ships, horses, etc.). It’s an old type of wizard story but in the hands of a master storyteller and this fact elevates it to a whole new level. The character have more depth, the descriptions are detailed, it’s an introduction and she knew she would write a series, she didn’t make compromises. 5/5.
The audiobook is also fantastic. We need the others from the series. It’s strange that we have the 10th book.

Probably the only “negative” comment we could write is that it’s a standalone so we can’t read more from this world.
The Japanese touch is obvious in this book and gives a fantastic feeling to it. We have a lot of classical fantasy over the decades so the modern technology that appears here is a good advancement.
The story is contained in a certain area and that’s well described with good characters and a base mood.
Well balanced in male and female characters and has a very interesting take on motivations and motherhood.
