I truly enjoyed this installment. It has elements that I absolutely love as an individual story…but its place in the series does raise an eyebrow. That said, Falcio has quickly become one of my favorite protagonists.

Wow! This book was a joy! Traitor’s Blade was great. But this was a step above. Can’t wait to jump into the next book!

When the resounding words of book one echo with “journey before destination,” it’s only fitting that this end would not be a destination, but rather a pitstop on a much longer journey. Again, Sanderson does an excellent job in weaving mental health and therapeutic truths into this story. Does it need to be this long? No. Does it deserve to be as long as he wants it to be? Yes, probably. It’s difficult to tell what is a fluffy subplot vs a seed for future books that will one day blossom where we can look back upon said “fluffy subplots” and see the genius of his writing. Time will tell, but I believe he has earned the right to have the benefit of my doubt. I don’t think this will go down as his best book—frankly it might be the weakest of the series—but that is more of a celebration of the series than an indictment upon Wind and Truth’s honor.

It left me wanting more depth, but I applaud Sanderson for continuing to show us readers that heroes emerge from all walks of life and wear many different hats ;)

If the indie published books I’ve read so far this year, this has been my favorite. With a tight narrative and easy prose, Hunsaker drives the reader through a slow-burn, enemies to allies (maybe more) story of purpose and redemption.

The marketing pitches this as an Avatar the Last Air Bender story that centers around Prince Zuko. I can definitely see the comparison! However, what a lot of readers (who complain about the character, Migo) fail to realize is that the psychology of his character and the nature of his flaws are so well aligned with covert depression. Having been diagnosed myself, it’s rare for a high-achieving character to be portrayed (Well!) with depression. The only one that truly comes to mind outside of Migo is Kaladin from Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive.

I hope people read this and give Migo the benefit of the doubt. Maybe at first you might not understand him, maybe you think it a little too cut and dry, or his thinking too black and white, but give him a chance. Maybe you’ll learn something about what it means to live with depression and have greater empathy for the millions of undiagnosed men in your life.

Thank you to the author for sharing such a powerful story in such a digestible form. I will absolutely be continuing the series and look forward to future installments!

Sometimes when you read a trilogy, the plot gets lost somewhere along the way. The themes get muddied. Or the characters fail to make good on what seemed destined for them.

This is not the case with the last installment of the stone and sky trilogy.

It ends the way the beginning promised, with a hope for humanity and sunshine in bookish form. This story highlights the best that humanity has to offer—not despite our differences, but because of our differences. The world has a lot to learn from Z.S Diamanti

I thoroughly enjoyed the voice and pacing of the writing. The narrator is great and really makes the production spring to life. The story itself was solid—it was very easy to flow with and follow along. There were times where I was making things more intricate and more dynamic in my head with where I thought things were going. I did find myself wanting a bit more with the ending (certain reveals I thought could have been big “wow” moments but just became “oh…” moments). It was still a great read and I’m very much looking forward to book 2!

Tide follows through on what Sky promised. The secondary characters are brought forward, further expanding the world of Finlestia in a rich and fulfilling way!

I found book 1 a bit derivative. I figured book 2, especially with more page space and time with the characters would begin to establish itself as its own story. For me, it did not. It doubled down on being the equivalent of an action flick. Entertaining, but ultimately very forgettable. Every character arc—if you can call it that—felt familiar. Every death felt inconsequential. At a certain point I was reading more out of a sense of curiosity for why others like it so much and less for my own enjoyment. I previously purchased book 3 so eventually I will continue, but I will have drastically lower expectations for this to be anything but a nostalgic read.

The complexity of Licanius + the simplicity or Red Rising

The Will of the Many delivers on the hype. Brilliantly narrated and well written, this story doesn’t need the propping up of Red Rising comparisons, but it does benefit it. Fans of Pierce Brown’s world building will enjoy the hierarchy even if they prefer Darrow over Vis. While I think this didn’t need to be as long as it was, I never felt like it was too long or that it dragged, but for those who complain in might be slow in its development, I can understand. Highly recommended and will certainly be continuing with the series!
