Historia
In his mid-20s, Jimmy was bored, boring, unfulfilled and underachieving. He wasn't exactly depressed, but he was very sad. Think of a baby owl whose mum has recently died in a windmill accident. He was that sad. This audiobook tells the story of how Jimmy turned it around and got happy, through the redemptive power of dick jokes.

Jimmy Carr is Funny, this book is not.
Revisado: 05-09-22
Complete waste of time. It's nothing but a rich guy telling poor people how to be happy. "If you want to be happy, you choose to be happy". bla bla bla.
I didn't know I was buying a self help book when I got it and Audible no longer appears to have the 'return' option available.
I thought it was a typical comedian's autobiography. A true story with funny bits in it. It isn't.

Historia
Kara Everglades has just finished her first year of high school and is longing for an adventure. So far, her only option is an invitation from some upperclassmen to watch them race a bunch of bullfrogs in a ditch. Her grandfather, Cornelius Everglades, is a family legend (and a loose cannon), who founded his own island micronation. Unfortunately, the rest of the world refuses to acknowledge it. When Cornelius shows up at Kara’s door needing her help and promising an adventure, Kara agrees to go along with his far-fetched plan.

I've never had a book make me nauseous before.
Revisado: 08-02-20
I've been enjoying audible for 12 years now and this is the first time a book has ever made me angry.
The only good thing about this steaming pile of crap is the audio cast. top notch actors (and Eliza Skinner). Making more of this than it's even worth.
I am a fan of sci fi comedy. A very small genre so I am always looking for something new to add to my collection.
This was not it.
It's poorly written, lacks humor of any kind and completely unfunny. I made it about 2 1/2 hours in before finally stopping and deciding to exchange it for anything else at all. perhaps something along the lines of "the complete history of dental drills".
It feels like it was written by a person who was not only homeschooled and never read a book, but by someone who's parents kept them locked up in a room with not television or radio and had plastic garbage bags over the windows so they couldn't see the outside world. You can hear the author saying to himself out loud as he's writing it "this is too funny" but there's no objective voice telling him "no, no it's not."
2 1/2 hours in and I didn't laugh once. Not even a snicker, or a chuckle. Just pained groans listening to the author miss at every single turn. He doesn't seem to be able to distinguish the difference between random/absurd and funny. Just because something is random or absurd doesn't mean its funny. "I take naps in the bathroom of an airplane while people crowd outside." I guess that was suppose to be funny because it's absurd, but absurd doesn't automatically mean funny.
THERE IS NOTHING FUNNY IN THIS STORY. I've had funnier things happen to me while waiting in the lobby of Jiffy Lube and getting an oil change for my car.
This feels like the kind of novel that was written because the author's wife didn't have the heart to tell her husband that he's just not funny and that's not why she married him. if feels like he ran to her with pages saying "hey look at this honey" and she glared at him with the dead vacant eyes and heartless smile of a stepford wife telling him "this is very good dear" but deep down she doesn't understand what he's doing.
IT'S JUST NOT GOOD. In fact it's embarrassing. I genuinely felt bad for the author as I was reading it. Then I stopped feeling bad for him and just felt bad for myself for subjecting myself to it.
The production is also a miss. This should have been done as a full on radio play (ie:the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy) and not an audio book with a cast half hybrid. As a fully on radio play it *MIGHT* maybe possibly have the potential to almost work. But no. It's distracting going back and forth from the narrator to the actors "performing" background characters to sound effects. The narrator says "you could hear a pin drop" and then you hear a pin drop. There's no natural flow, nothing about this feels professional. Honestly, it's like everyone involved agreed to put in the absolute minimal amount of effort necessary. Like they set the bar and then said "Let's see how far below it we can possibly go. No seriously, if I catch you even trying in the slightest, I'm going to break your kneecaps."
I've had more fun being pulled over for a DUI than I did listening to this.
For the love of all that is good in the universe don't waste your money or or credits on this steaming pile of audio trash.

There is less here than meets the eye
Revisado: 04-19-20
The story is not interesting at all. A girl who grew up in the WBC, believed everything they taught, then didn't and left.
That's the entire story. The details of her family life are not interesting enough to sustain the story.
The one good part about this book and unfortunately it doesn't work as an audio book are the list of biblical verses the WBC used to justify it's hate. I'd rather just have a cliff notes version IE: a manual with the bible verses she mentions and their church uses to justify their hate of everyone they meet. That's the single most useful thing in the book. Wan't to know why god hates... (insert group here)? Here are the verses for it".
It's nice to see such a well complied list of the 'justifiable bigotry' she sites throughout the book.
People could learn from that, but unfortunately as I said, it doesn't work as a audiobook for those purposes. it would be more useful as a paperback that you could go through and highlight the verses for future reference.

this is no big finish
Revisado: 01-27-18
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
meh, it killed an hour. nothing more nothing less.
Would you ever listen to anything by Nigel Fairs again?
This feels like it's part 2 of another story. There was no introduction or explanation for where the characters were, how they got there, why they were there. I was lost from the beginning.
This felt like it was written by someone who had heard of Doctor Who but has never actually seen an episode before.
Have you listened to any of John Leeson and Lalla Ward ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
they are both fine/ excellent as performers (duh!) sadly they were both wasted in this story.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
nope
Any additional comments?
stick with the big finish doctor who productions. They never disappoint.

Revisado: 08-22-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this was my first experience with a Stephen King book. I'm not a fan of horror but have always wanted to try one of his books. I absolutely loved it.
What did you like best about this story?
so much detail. The characters are deep and complicated ,the story is thrilling almost from the first page. I loved every minute of it. I honestly wish I could forget it all and read it again for the first time.
Have you listened to any of Craig Wasson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
this was my first time listening to Mr. Wasson. I enjoyed his read and will look into other titles narrated by him.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had a hard time putting it down. It's a long book but I wish I could have done it all in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
I was engrossed from start to finish. I was counting down the final chapters hoping it would never end.

Would you consider the audio edition of Super Mario to be better than the print version?
YES, the narrator does an excellent job telling the story.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I enjoy this performance. He's a competent and quality narrator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I honestly didn't know what to expect when I read/listened this. It's a great history of nintendo from its humble beginnings through to modern day.
Any additional comments?
like I said I didn't know what to expect when I first started listening but couldn't put it down. I was engaged/informed and entertained from start to finish. Kudos to author and all the way down the line.

Revisado: 08-22-16
Where does Jurassic Park rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I am a Jurassic Park nut, I've been a fan of the movie since it first came out, I know all the behind the scenes and creation process but this is the first time I've ever read the book.
It was soo much better than I could have even imagined. I LOVE the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Which scene was your favorite?
the book is so much more intense than the movie is. The scenes with the Trex are just frightening.
Any additional comments?
If you've been putting off reading the book like I have I highly recommend you make it your next purchase. Worth it in every way.

Very "Twilight Zoney"
Revisado: 11-30-15
What did you love best about Bradbury 13 (Dramatized)?
They're all excellently done, well written, well produced, well acted and how could anyone complain about the narration by Paul Frees?
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bradbury 13 (Dramatized)?
They're all wonderful 30min radio plays/morality tales. They are all described in beautiful full color but in my mind they're all black and white. It's like watching classic episodes of the twilight zone by Rod Serling
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
All of it. very well preformed.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"You are not entering the Twilight Zone"
Any additional comments?
highly HIGHLY recommend to anyone who's a fan of Ray Bradbury, the Twilight Zone or just good dramatizations in general.

Revisado: 10-04-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you've ever watched a nature documentary chances are you've seen and heard him before. You just don't get any better than this.
What other book might you compare Quest under Capricorn to and why?
all of his titles. Seriously. it's almost too meta to hear David Attenborough reading about David Attenborough.
What does David Attenborough bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
his voice. No one else could have narrated this book. No one else should ever narrate this book. David should read EVERY book ever.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was hooked from the first word and started it right over again after I heard the last.
Any additional comments?
