Historia
Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Is that the old Grisham I see?

Any additional comments?
I was hesitant to give this book a try. I've been so disappointed with the last 4 or 5 books I read by Grisham - all build up; no climax. Books like The Partner, The Brethren, The Testament, Runaway Jury don't compare to his early power houses like The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client, A Time to Kill... In fact, in the late 1990s - early 2000s, he seemed to be coming out with these books so fast, that it's not surprising that the content suffered. I have not read a JG book since the King of Torts. BUT - The Racketeer did not disappoint with its ending. I was hoping there would be a twist and oh boy, was there ever! Nice going, JG! I may have to go back and check out the books I skipped.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

WHAT!!!????
Revisado: 04-16-13
What did you like best about Gone Girl? What did you like least?
I liked the story and the way it was told from two different points of view. And I liked the way it was narrated. But really? It's just going to end like that? I think I screamed out loud when the book ended. I expected there to be at least another chapter, maybe 6. I felt let down - those are hours of my life I will never get back. Such build up to end not with a bang, but a little, tiny, insignificant whimper.
If you’ve listened to books by Gillian Flynn before, how does this one compare?
I have not.
Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not.
Could you see Gone Girl being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Not so much.

Now what do I do?
Revisado: 04-16-13
Would you listen to Lover at Last again? Why?
Again and again and again and again! Why? Because JR Ward has not written book 12 yet. I have listened to all 11 books and have absolutely loved everything about them. I've fallen in love with the characters and anxiously looked forward to my drive to/from work so that I could listen to their stories. I even secretly wished for more traffic, so that I could listen longer. Jim Frangione is a fantastic narrator, who embedded clear and beautiful images of each of the characters as well as their surroundings into my brain and my heart. I feel like I got to know them and now they're gone. I wonder what they're up to and I miss them every day.
What other book might you compare Lover at Last to and why?
Books 1-10 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There's no comparison to any other book.
Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?
Trying to pick a favorite brother is like asking which one of your kids you love more. It's not possible. I loved them all and Jim Frangione did an amazing job depicting them!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. I could have stayed up all night listening to it, but then I would have had no more to listen to. I'm considering going back to book 1 and re-listening to them all again, while awaiting the next one (please let it be soon!).

Historia
The Firebird Affair centers on the suspicious death of Emily, the beautiful wife of Washington Tribune correspondent Todd Martin. In 1991, she collapsed over lunch with a friend in a Moscow restaurant. A massive heart attack, Moscow authorities said and the US Embassy concurred. They shipped her body home to the U.S. without Todd even being aware she had died. He was out of contact covering one of the conflicts flaring up as the Soviet Union disintegrated.

When the narrator is bad even the best story sucks
Revisado: 04-16-13
What would have made The Firebird Affair better?
I haven't gotten through the entire book yet, because I cringe at the way it's read. I usually listen to audio books during my commute. With many of the books I've heard, I actually look forward to traffic and more time to listen. I have no such feelings about this book and at this point, just listening to it to get it done and move on to the next book. The main character's voice is annoying, especially when he gets excited and the voices he provides for other characters teeter on ridiculous (i.e. the voice of his best friend sounds like Dopey of the 7 dwarfs). So, without even knowing the outcome of the story yet, the book would be made infinitely better by replacing the narrator.
Has The Firebird Affair turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Would you be willing to try another one of Andy Caploe’s performances?
NO!
