I ran across this book, and picked it up, because I seen the first two series of CB strike. I found this book to be superb, and the in the sexual tension between the characters to be so well written, and communicated. I highly recommend the series and hope they will add to it. I’m going to download a second CB strike book.

One of her best!
Revisado: 10-10-22
I have listened to several of her novels; her work is formidable. This one is special. I found myself very involved with the characters, rooting for them; at one point I had to stop listening because I knew the story didn’t take me where I so wanted to go. An author who can get to you like that is special.

This is my second time through this book, having read all of the books years ago. Listening to it however with the wonderful narration has been a joy. Language is incredible. And the depth of understanding, the research, it almost defies our ability as landsmen to follow.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

What to say about this book
Revisado: 12-19-20
This was a very interesting book. My main problem with it was the narration. It was over-acted. Fast, slow, high-pitched, low-pitched, too much. Voice is fine, but less is more. Dial it back, Dude. I found myself having to listen to sentences two and even three times to get what he was saying. Fortunately I stuck with it. Toward the end the problem lessened. Either he learned or I did. Which brings to the book itself.
Very thought-provoking and what else do you want from sci-fi? Well-written without being pedantic, the plot and characters suck you in. Set in the exploring phase of humanity’s future, the story is immediate and closely focused on the events unfolding in the moment. This not a book with a grand sweep of history or background. It’s about the trails and efforts of a a “salvage crew”, three humans and an ex-human AI, trying to cope with their job as it goes horribly wrong. Totally got me by the end; in spite of the narration.

Historia
Hundreds of years ago, the last humans on Earth boarded the Exodus Fleet in search of a new home among the stars. After centuries spent wandering empty space, their descendants were eventually accepted by the well-established species that govern the Milky Way. But that was long ago. Today, the Exodus Fleet is a living relic, the birthplace of many, yet a place few outsiders have ever visited. As many Exodans leave for alien cities or terrestrial colonies, those who remain are left to ponder their own lives and futures.

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

Atwood is awesome!
Revisado: 09-27-19
I listened to (or maybe I read) The Handmaid’s Tale a few years ago. I’ve been a fan of Margaret Atwood for a long time, and most of her work is a hit with me. Of course she eschews being classed as a sci-fi writer, but who cares. Her “imaginative fiction” is superb, always full of interesting ideas and she writes with the clarity and confidence of a true writer. This book does not disappoint, and I found myself moved at the end, rooting for our heroines, happy in her conclusions, pleased as she tied up the loose ends. Naturally, I enjoyed the TV series as well and await the next season. A great book, enjoy.

Historia
Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

Loved this book.
Revisado: 08-19-13
What made the experience of listening to Bad Monkey the most enjoyable?
I like a lighter read now and again, and this was a fine book to fill a couple of hours. I like the main detective...very Harry Bosch like character. His antics as he tries to reclaim his spot in the detective ranks are fine, as is his penchant for sex and hooking up with both the right and the wrong people. Full of fun characters, not much in the way of plot twists, but a great romp.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I think I liked our main character the best.
Which scene was your favorite?
When the monkey clamped onto one of the bad guy's penis.
If you could rename Bad Monkey, what would you call it?
Would never rename it...great title.

Historia
In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Would you listen to The Black Box again? Why?
I don't know if I listen again, but I sure enjoyed it this first time.
What did you like best about this story?
Like all the series, it is the pacing and non-stop edge-of-the-seat action that keeps you listening. I also very much enjoy knowing Bosch's flawed humanity.
Have you listened to any of Michael McConnohie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Good performer.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This writer often puts me in fear for the character's life, feelings, emotions, etc.
Any additional comments?
If you like this series, you will not be disappointed by this particular book. Its is among the best.

Historia
Often called the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace is at once an epic of the Napoleonic wars, a philosophical study, and a celebration of the Russian spirit. Tolstoy's genius is clearly seen in the multitude of characters in this massive chronicle, all of them fully realized and equally memorable.

It's an amazing piece of work.
Revisado: 08-13-12
What did you love best about War and Peace?
I most loved the sense of being the in times. It is hard to imagine this period of history today and yet I know Tolstoy has nailed it. Most of us don't hobnob with the upper classes, to the extent there are any upper classes today, so the experience is unique.
What did you like best about this story?
His sense action is very clear. It is like being in the battles. Unfortunately, battles are confused and unclear snatches of perception to the participants, and since I don't know the history of these battles having never studied this theatre of the Napoleanic
Wars, the battles are confused and unclear.
Which scene was your favorite?
Prince Andre's death
