Historia
Simi prayed to the gods, once. Now she serves them as Mami Wata—a mermaid—collecting the souls of those who die at sea and blessing their journeys back home. But when a living boy is thrown overboard, Simi goes against an ancient decree and does the unthinkable—she saves his life. And punishment awaits those who dare to defy the gods.

Esu is NOT a Villain . Disrespectful.
Revisado: 10-21-22
The storyline is decent. Its creative in the use of Mami wata, the slave trade, and Yemoja. However I had trouble finishing it because of how the author depicted Esu as evil and wicked. The author has a foul understanding of Esu and reiterates a false narrative of him that is extremely offensive to Orisa devotees and priests. The author had Esu punished Yemoja and scarred up her face. It depicted Esu as Olodumares enemy and positions him as trying to take power for himself. Esu is a divinity and the right hand of Olodumare, not evil. Esu is highly loved and respected by those in the tradition. Orisa are our religion ... one that has millions devotees worldwide...not just some creative myth. There has been a false narrative of Esu being the devil since Christian missionaries wrongly translated Esu as such. There are whole campaigns to dispell that lie and correct it. Unfortunately the author only reinforces that lie and because of that, I can't recommend it.

Historia
From the moment Sunny Nwazue discovered she had mystical energy flowing in her blood, she sought to understand and control her powers. Throughout her adventures, she had to navigate the balance between nearly everything in her life—America and Nigeria, the "normal" world and the one infused with juju, human and spirit, good daughter and powerful Leopard Person. Now, those hard lessons and abilities are put to the test in a quest so dangerous and fantastical, it would be madness to go . . . but may destroy the world if she does not.

In Manhattan, a young grad student gets off the train and realizes he doesn't remember who he is, where he's from, or even his own name. But he can sense the beating heart of the city, see its history, and feel its power. In the Bronx, a Lenape gallery director discovers strange graffiti scattered throughout the city, so beautiful and powerful it's as if the paint is literally calling to her. In Brooklyn, a politician and mother finds she can hear the songs of her city, pulsing to the beat of her Louboutin heels.
