Historia
In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it will take an all-too-earthbound intrigue to draw in the discerning heroine of Anna Lee Huber's latest mystery. It's not that Verity Kent doesn't sympathize with those eager to make contact with lost loved ones. After all, she once believed herself a war widow. But now that she's discovered Sidney is very much alive, Verity is having enough trouble connecting with her estranged husband, never mind the dead. Still, at a friend's behest, Verity attends a seance.

Great story, terrible reader
Revisado: 11-17-24
The story, character development and mystery are extremely well done and well written. However, the”reader” just reads, and does a minimal job to portray the characters and emotions so beautifully portrayed in the written word. Unfortunate.

Characters, plot, suspense, development: everything brilliantly done. And the narrator is terrific. Glad I found this author.

Really good story. Terrible narrator.

The story was well done as usual, although character emotions could have been developed better. The narrator was reading a phone book.

On a late October Sunday morning in Gravigna, local maresciallo Perillo is having breakfast with ex-NYPD detective Nico Doyle when he is called back to the station in Greve. Laura Benati, the young manager of Hotel Bella Vista, is worried—her bartender and good friend eighty-year-old Cesare Costanzi has been missing for three days. The next morning, Jimmy, co-owner of Bar All’Angolo, Gravigna’s local café, where Nico is a frequent patron, runs out of gas on his way back from Florence. When Nico meets him to help, Nico’s dog reacts to the smell coming from Jimmy’s trunk.

Terrible Reader, good story
Revisado: 06-06-24
The characters are lively, the stories exciting, but the reader kills it. He sounds like he’s just reading pages as fast as he can. It does the books and the author a disservice.

One year after moving to his late wife’s Tuscan hometown of Gravigna, Nico Doyle has fully settled into life there, seeing friends in the course of daily errands and helping to serve and test recipes at his in-laws’ restaurant. But the town is shaken by the arrival of wine critic Michele Mantelli in his flashy Jaguar. Mantelli holds his influential culinary magazine and blog over Gravigna’s vintners and restaurateurs. Disappointed
Revisado: 05-31-21
I love all of David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter and K9 books. I don’t know if this was a very early book, but it is long and tedious. And utterly improbable in plot and characterization. Very disappointing.

Terrible sound quality
Revisado: 06-13-15
What disappointed you about Shards of Hope?
The story by Nalini Singh is as good as I have come to expect from her. Entertaining and fast moving. Normally, I enjoy Angela Dawes' narration. However, in this book, when Ms Dawes was doing narration, the volume on her mike was at peak level. But when she moved into dialog, she not only spoke in a very soft voice, but it sounded as if the volume on her mike was turned down to almost nothing. I had to adjust the volume at every change just to hear what the dialog was, then turn it down so I didn't blast my eardrums at the narration. This should have been fixed in the edit room. Totally unacceptable for an audio book.
How could the performance have been better?
