Historia
Doom Guy: Life in First Person is the long-awaited autobiography of gaming’s original rock star and the cocreator of DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein—some of the most recognizable and important titles in video game history. Credited with the invention of the first-person shooter, a genre that continues to dominate the market today, he is gaming royalty. Told in remarkable detail, a byproduct of his hyperthymesia, Romero recounts his storied career.

Great history telling on an epic game!
Revisado: 02-17-24
As someone who played Doom to death when it came out, I’d always wondered at the internal history of ID and how it made the classic games so many play and love.
Romero really is a good book reader and wouldn’t mind other books read by him.

Historia
By August 1968, the American space program was in danger of failing in its two most important objectives: to land a man on the moon by President Kennedy's end-of-decade deadline and to triumph over the Soviets in space. With its back against the wall, NASA made an almost unimaginable leap: It would scrap its usual methodical approach and risk everything on a sudden launch, sending the first men in history to the moon - in just four months.

One of his best books, imo. Love the characters, the backstory, and the history.

Awesome reboot of a great childhood sci-fi series
Revisado: 02-21-23
I was a little hesitant when I’d first heard of this new series, but quickly warmed up to it as the voice acting was very professionally done and the stories modernized to make more sense (especially the explanation of how the moon left orbit without blowing up).
Definitely worth a listen and I keep checking for more volumes!

But in the face of brutal living conditions and the daily struggles of a new world, there is humanity and hope.

Good Production and Voice Work
Revisado: 04-30-17
Any additional comments?
Good production on this audible drama, especially after the excellent (to me) 'Into The Shadows'. Love the voice work, and the actress playing Ripley really nailed it.
Some minor nitpicks, though. In the last audio drama, Ripley's daughter, Amanda, was mentioned many times and even looked up by Ash in his records (also connecting to Alien: Isolation). Even Hooper gave up his life so Ripley could leave and hopefully get back to Amanda.
But in this drama, she's mentioned only once, not even talked about by Burke to Ripley before the deposition (a scene in the extended Aliens cut and the main idea for Isolation). I think it would've had more continuity if she'd had more time to grieve for her daughter, who died of cancer.
The other issue is why did they have to make a connection to Prometheus? When the Jordens get to the Space Jockey, one of them comments how the Jockey's head is actually a helmet. Seriously, how could they really tell? To me, it'll always be a Space Jockey and always be another alien to me.

Historia
In the 1940s and '50s, when the newly minted Jet Propulsion Laboratory needed quick-thinking mathematicians to calculate velocities and plot trajectories, they didn't turn to male graduates. Rather, they recruited an elite group of young women who, with only pencil, paper, and mathematical prowess, transformed rocket design, helped bring about the first American satellites, and made the exploration of the solar system possible.

New take on women's role in the Space Program!
Revisado: 06-15-16
Any additional comments?
Funny how in all the movies and tv shows, etc., we always see women primarily portraying the wives, girlfriends, what have you of the astronauts: they stayed home with the kids and guys went up in space. For my part, I had no clue that women had played such an integral role in the beginnings of the Space Program.
One curious note: while the book talked about how the Space Race with the Soviets was on everyone's mind, there was no mention at all about how they'd send a woman into space (Valentina Tereshkova) soon after the first man. I thought it would've a nice contrast, especially since I'd wondered if any of those woman 'computers' thought they'd see an american woman in space as well? Sad that it took the U.S. close to 2 decades before we'd caught up to the Soviets in *that* race.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Very Well Made Audiodrama, Hope to Hear More!
Revisado: 05-11-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Alien: Out of the Shadows to be better than the print version?
I'd read the book some time back and thought it was ok, but thought the audio version was so much better.
What other book might you compare Alien: Out of the Shadows to and why?
I'd compare this to the other Alien and Aliens books, also made into Audible books.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The voice actors (narrators) really did a great job making me care for the characters. Made them so believable and down to earth. Btw, the voice actress who did Ripley made me initially think that it was Sigourney Weaver.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and I've listened it several times already.
Any additional comments?
I did appreciate the production using many of the sound effects as well as plot points from the game 'Alien: Isolation'. Also, I believe the voice actress who voiced Amanda Ripley plays one of the doctors. I hope to see more audio dramas from the Alien universe.

Great add-ons, but not 'unabridged'
Revisado: 05-25-13
Where does World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This ranks on my top 5 best audiobooks, the different actors/actresses really make this a great listen.
What did you like best about this story?
The realism.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Haven't heard any others, unfortunately.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Very much so.
Any additional comments?
The description states this is an 'unabridged' reading, which I took to mean all the people who did the original reading, had come back to fill in the dialogue that got cut from the original. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. All that was done was new actors were brought in to read the chapters not included. Hopefully the site will change the wording.

War seethed across the planet. Machines soared through the air, churned through the seas, crawled across the surface, pushing ever forward, carrying death. Earth was engaged in titanic struggle. Germany, Russia, France, China, Japan: the maps were changing day by day. Alternate 'V'...
Revisado: 05-12-10
I was first exposed to this when I friend of mine gave me the first book back in college. At the time, I wasn't a very big fan of 'alternate history' and actually didn't read the book till much later. After turning the first page, I became hooked in the genre. Admittedly, it reminded me of the show 'V' with lizards coming to Earth to conquer us, if not to eat us. The book does have a large cast of characters, some historical and some fictional, but Turtledove does a good job of balancing not only the people but the places that are jumped from all over the world.
Having just finished this, I can' wait for the second book in the tetralogy to be made. Todd McLaren does a good job with delivery as well as different accents for the large cast in the book.
