Historia
Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 03-15-18
Not what I had expected from a Christian author. The stories were interesting on the theoretical level. His interesting viewpoint on the idea of humanity and death was worth listening to, but his conclusions were too open.

Historia
The revised and updated edition of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's modern classic about the psychology of combat, hailed by the Washington Post as "an illuminating account of how soldiers learn to kill and how they live with the experiences of having killed". In World War II, only 15 to 20 percent of combat infantry were willing to fire their rifles. In Korea, about 50 percent. In Vietnam, the figure rose to more than 90 percent. The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill.

Outstanding history of the Korean Conflict
Revisado: 12-12-17
The author did an outstanding job of displaying America’s reluctant call to the “far frontier“ at the beginning of the Korean conflict. He lays out the follies of America’s position, and provides solutions for the future by informing his readers. The speaker does a great job bringing the characters to life through his tones.

Great points but hard to stay plugged in
Revisado: 08-16-17
I found it difficult to stay engaged during portions of the book, and took a break in listening to it because it didn't keep me drawn in. Author occasionally becomes emotional, which was distracting. But he has a lot of great points & a good overall thesis.

Not what I thought it would be
Revisado: 08-11-17
The book is more about his personal life and issues than learning how to get ahead of terrorists' cycle to prevent incidents. So much of the book is redacted that it takes away from the story (with long musical pauses).

Historia
After September 11, Americans agonized over why 19 men hated the United States enough to kill 3,000 civilians in an unprovoked assault. Analysts have offered a wide variety of explanations for the attack, but the one voice missing is that of the terrorists themselves. This penetrating book is the first to present the inner logic of al-Qaeda, and like-minded extremist groups, by which they justify September 11 and other terrorist attacks.

Very articulately researched
Revisado: 07-28-17
the author clearly did in depth research and shows a great understanding of the enemy's perspective and how to "defeat" them. The book is likewise often dry because of the sheer volume of "data" laid out in her review. I was disappointed that she spent only about one paragraph synthesizing how the information tied together to motivate the 9-11 attackers and didn't address the issue in much detail.

Historia
David Marquet, an experienced Navy officer, was used to giving orders. Marquet acted like any other captain until, one day, he unknowingly gave an impossible order, and his crew tried to follow it anyway. Marquet realized he was leading in a culture of followers, and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things. Struggling against his own instincts to take control, he instead achieved the vastly more powerful model of giving control.

Great leadership book
Revisado: 07-15-17
The book is great. The reader's voice isn't quite what I'd imagine when considering a naval captain. There were a few repeats in dialog.

This book changed not only the way I listen & interpret what I hear but how I deal with issues from negotiating to talking politics. Glad this expert was willing to share his experiences. The readers voice is a little gruffly, which fits the context of most of the book but not always.

Amazing story, well told
Revisado: 06-18-16
Reader does a great job covering the story and investigation in an intriguing manner. I heard about this war crime from my Captain's Career Course instructor and was disturbed to see just how bad the massacres were, and how terrible men can be when they are not held accountable for their actions.

Red teaming. It is a practice as old as the Devil's Advocate, the 11th-century Vatican official charged with discrediting candidates for sainthood. Today, red teams - comprised primarily of fearless skeptics and those assuming the role of saboteurs who seek to better understand the interests, intentions, and capabilities of institutions or potential competitors - are used widely in both the public and private sector.

Interesting concept
Revisado: 03-09-16
Wasn't as good as I had hoped, but quite informative. The author repeats some of the same points and stories in part, but it's overall a well rounded, well researched, book. Would recommend to anyone in the intelligence community but not necessarily for the average reader.
