Historia
This telling of the story of Jane's life shows us how and why she lived as she did, examining the places and spaces that mattered to her. It wasn't all country houses and ballrooms, but a life that was often a painful struggle. Jane famously lived a 'life without incident', but with new research and insights Lucy Worsley reveals a passionate woman who fought for her freedom. A woman who far from being a lonely spinster in fact had at least five marriage prospects, but who in the end refused to settle for anything less than Mr Darcy.

Historia
In the summer of 1862, a group of young artists led by the passionate and talented Edward Radcliffe descends upon Birchwood Manor in rural Oxfordshire. Their plan: to spend a secluded summer month in a haze of inspiration and creativity. But by the time their stay is over, one woman has been shot dead while another has disappeared; a priceless heirloom is missing; and Edward Radcliffe’s life is in ruins. Over 150 years later, Elodie Winslow, a young archivist in London, uncovers a leather satchel containing two seemingly unrelated items.

The perfect story
Revisado: 08-08-24
Joanne Froggat is an excellent storyteller! She really brought it to life with all the different character interpretations. The story itself was compelling and I loved the way it was told throughout different times. Kate Morton always crafts an exceptional tale.

Historia
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

Horrid main character
Revisado: 07-04-24
The writing is good, so good that the author made me loathe the main character. And that was the problem, the character was a terrible, self obsessed, mean, petty person. She spends all her time lying to her therapist to get drugs, is awful to her only friend, and is just completely loathsome. And none of this in a clever, funny, or entertaining way. I had to push myself to continue reading, hoping that there would be some sort of realization or change of heart or something where the main character learns lessons and becomes a better person. But no such luck. Read this only if you want to be annoyed by a sad, drug addicted, no redeeming qualities whatsoever character.
