Good first novel
Revisado: 06-15-22
The world constructed by Jim Butcher is fun and fascinating. There is plenty of humor. And nothing is ever straightforward for Harry, which is a huge plus, as part of the joy in the books is watching him move from scrap of information to scrap of information as he unravels the mystery presented. Harry can be maudlin at times, and the pacing is slower, but those are minor annoyances in this introduction to Harry Dresden's world.

If you like myths, this is well worth your time
Revisado: 01-28-22
Long, but good. The stories are interesting. It could use an index, for people who aren't interested in listening to it straight through, but wish to jump to something specific, like Norse legends.
With some of the legends, primarily Mesopotamian, he gives us different variations on the same story, which was surprisingly fun.

Where to start? First of all, why have I never heard of Liane Moriarty before? What rock have I been living under?
This is a non-traditional suspense novel, told from different points of view, each so distinct you can tell who is who just by the dialogue.
The family dynamics are complicated and feel real, complete with love, rivalry, and loyalty.
Now it's time for me to read everything else she's ever written.
This book is well worth your time.

Historia
Small businesses are the backbone of the US economy. They are the biggest job creators and offer a path to the American dream. But for many, it is difficult to get the capital they need to operate and succeed. In the Great Recession, access to capital for small businesses froze and in the aftermath, many community banks shuttered their doors and other lenders that had weathered the storm turned to more profitable avenues. For years after the financial crisis, the outlook for many small businesses was bleak. But then a new dawn of financial technology, or 'fintech', emerged.

Concise History of Fintech
Revisado: 11-21-21
This is a great book for those interested in a high level overview of Fintech. The history is interesting, and the analysis is well done in setting up the synergies and tensions between traditional lenders and start ups.

This is one of the most helpful self improvement books I've ever read. He states a principle, tells a story, then recaps at the end of the chapter. Because he has four broad principles which he breaks down into tiny parts its easy to see where you can improve.

Every time you watch baseball, you’re watching more than just a game - you’re participating in the latest chapter of a compelling story. What began as the earliest bat-and-ball games became the favorite American pastime of the first 19th-century baseball games. Knowing how baseball came to be what it is today will add levels of enjoyment, respect, and appreciation to any game you watch.

Early baseball is more interesting then expected
Revisado: 10-19-21
Not a big baseball history buff, but wow! The first 70 years were nuts, with rival leagues, and rule changes, and owner shenanigans. Want to know about black leagues? There's a lecture for that. Early attempts by women to play baseball? There's a lecture for that. Gambling? Politics? Traditions? Lectures for all of those.
This is a fascinating look at "America's Game" that even a casual fan can appreciate.

This sets the foundation for sword & sorcery's greatest duo. The voice acting is good. Lieber's world is intriguing.

But when mysterious footsteps follow her home, and she finds a cryptic note taped to her door, she realizes she's stayed too long. The man she's hiding from has found her. But how?

I'll read more C.C. Warrens, but not Holly Cross
Revisado: 06-13-21
Excellent writing. Well plotted story. Memorable characters. However, if there is a bad decision to make, Holly (our protagonist) will make it. This can make for interesting writing but here it goes too far.
By chapter 18 I lost all empathy for Holly. By chapter 21 I was actively hoping she would get killed and someone with some common sense would finish the story and bring her stalker to justice. It's a harsh reaction, but somewhere along the way Holly's active obstruction of the people trying to help her, even as she criticizes them for not doing it better, caused me to grow disaffected with the character. I finished the book (on x3 speed) and while I enjoyed the secondary characters I never regained an emotional connection with Holly.
C.C. Warrens is a talented author. I look forward to reading other books by her, but the Holly Cross series will not be among them.
