Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

Awful narrator, poorly written
Revisado: 03-03-23
The narrator basically sticks to this creepy whisper which makes it sound like she’s narrating a porno. Gross. And the story itself is amateurish and implausible. I basically cringed through it, either from the inappropriately toned narration or the awful unrealistic plot. Sorry I wasted a credit.

Great story-not a romance and not a mystery,.,just a lovely and moving drama which unfolds beautifully. The narration though? There’s a lot of audible swallowing and lip smacking that’s triggering if those sounds bug you.

Revisado: 09-27-22
Absolutely riveting - excellent listen; I'll admit it was a little tough to keep up with some character names but you manage if you're attentive (and you can always look them up, thanks google). I have a long commute and this book had me looking forward to getting into the car, and really sad when the book came to an end. The story is riveting, unusual, and there are some important themes here regarding online identities and the dangers of the cyber world. Absolutely phenomenal start to finish, I was never bored. LOVED THIS.

Overall good, rushed ending (spoiler alert)
Revisado: 07-18-22
Overall though this author's writing is vivid and rich in metaphor, really well styled. Slow start but then really captivating, and the characters are interesting; I can do without the graphic sexual description; the suggested lesbian overtones between two of the characters was a little over the top but maybe that sells a few more copies to guys who like to imagine that all pretty women are secretly lesbians - cheap but doesn't kill the novel. My main issue here was the scooby doo cartoonish ending - the dastardly criminal telling the whole sordid crime, replete with motivations, as the tied up heroine desperately seeks escape. Took a good novel and made it seem silly and ridiculous at the end.

NOT a thriller; badly written trashy romance
Revisado: 04-13-22
Wow this was so bad! Should not be listed as a thriller—it’s just extremely low quality trashy porn. Embarrassingly bad writing. Awful, dopey plot. Ridiculously contrived. I can't believe I wasted a credit on this crap and I'm completely shocked at how many good reviews this awful garbage received. And the ending? Good lord almighty - how did this get published? Just. So. Bad.

I really enjoyed this book at first. I thought it was riveting, troubling, suspenseful - but ultimately it just doesn’t get where it should. I finished it feeling dissatisfied and wondering what the heck the point was.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-13-21
Loved the characters and the story - was hooked from the beginning. Usually I'm skeptical of free audio listens and not all of them are great, but this one I'd have paid for happily. The characters are well drawn and I got so invested in them and in the story itself - one of those rare listens where I couldn't wait to return to it and at the same time I didn't want it to end. Really wonderful.

Repulsive, saliva-ridden narration kills the story
Revisado: 11-16-21
Overall this could be a good story; unfortunately two of the narrators make disgusting mouth sounds throughout which completely kill the enjoyment. I got hooked listening to the lesser of the repulsive narrators so i stuck with the story, but every time the male narrator spoke I nearly gagged - you can hear the wet saliva in his mouth, the lip smacking and swallowing and overall gross liquidness of it. If this kind of stuff bothers you skip the story - its good, but not worth the torture.
