Historia
Hidden beneath her British reserve, Edwina has a secret: she’s finished her novel and is bravely mailing the manuscript to a publisher. Beryl also has a secret: as thanks for solving a case, the American adventuress has been gifted an airplane. After swooping over the fields and hedgerows of Walmsley Parva, livestock scattering beneath her, she flamboyantly lands the plane on the village green, prompting a startled Edwina to consider a stiff gin fizz. Beryl’s aircraft is not the only disruption of village peace. Miss Dinsdale, a psychic medium, has started holding séances.

Historia
In 1920s England, private detective Henry Fleming is visiting his friend, retired author Lily Riley, in the quintessentially English village of Fulbridge. Tragedy strikes when a resident is murdered, stabbed through the heart, in the historic local church. When an inexperienced Scotland Yard detective arrives to investigate the case, Lily is accused of the terrible crime. With no sign of a murder weapon, and no obvious motive, Fleming realises it will fall to him to prove his friend's innocence and solve the baffling case.

I liked the overall story. The author did a good job developing characters. The reveal was much like a Poirot reveal. Enjoyable.

Historia
The Gyrth family had guarded the Chalice for hundreds of years. It was held by them for the Crown. Its antiquity, its beauty, the extraordinary legends that were connected with it, all combined to make it unique of its kind. It was irreplaceable. No thief could hope to dispose of it in the ordinary way. And indeed no ordinary thief would dream of trying. But there are others besides those who make their living by robbery, others whose immense wealth and passion for collecting render them less immune to the practical considerations that must guide even the less honestly minded citizens.

A lot going on
Revisado: 10-29-24
There were a lot of character descriptions that seem to fill space without adding to the atmosphere or the plot. These details may have gone over better in a paper book.

Historia
Sharing lodging in the sleepy English village of Walmsley Parva has eased some of the financial strain on the two old school chums, but money is still tight in these years following the Great War. So when the local vicar - and pigeon-racing club president - approaches them with a private inquiry opportunity, the ladies accept. There's been a spot of bother: The treasurer has absconded with the club's funds and several prized birds. But when they visit the man's loft, they find their elusive quarry lying in white feathers and a pool of crimson blood - the only witnesses cooing mournfully.

Love the pacing and story. Good small town mystery with enjoyable characters.
I love the narrator for this book. Her voice, tone and pace are exactly like I expect Beryl’s character to sound for the books general narrative. She adjusts other character voices nicely and I can hear mood changes in each scene.
Overall enjoyable listen.

Historia
The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Historia
Towards Zero: What is the connection among a failed suicide attempt, a wrongful accusation of theft against a schoolgirl, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player? To the casual observer, apparently nothing. But when a house party gathers at Gull’s Point, the seaside home of an elderly widow, earlier events come to a dramatic head. Ordeal By Innocence: According to the courts, Jacko Argyle bludgeoned his mother to death with a poker. The sentence was life imprisonment.

Loved Towards Zero - Liked Ordeal story
Revisado: 04-22-22
The performances of these stories were excellent. Execution, timing and voice were wonderful.
In Towards Zero the mix of character groups introduced at the beginning was so divergent it had me wondering the whole story how the author would bring things around. The story has great pace and flow with several twists along the way.
Ordeal of Innocence was a very good story but seemed cumbersome for my taste. The characters were well written and plot line clear. It was more plodding for me.

Great Detective Duo
Revisado: 03-18-22
I really enjoy how these two solve crime together. The authors have developed strong characters with great backgrounds.
Kat is a strong female lead who works with her new husband to solve mysteries. Harry is intelligent and witty as a new husband and equally strong male lead character. They solve the cases by each contributing their strengths and trusting the others abilities.
The story has laughs mixed in with the mystery. Well paced. Love this new series.

Historia
Lavinia's annual Masked Ball at Mydworth Manor is a highlight of the season, as locals mingle with the great and famous from London. But the lavish party comes to a full stop when one of the guests is found dead down by the lake. It seems it's a clear case of a heart attack. But Harry and Kat suspect that the dead man in a mask was in fact the victim of a clever case of murder. And the killer's work at the party is not yet done... Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The Secret Adversary: From the brilliant pen of Agatha Christie comes the first novel in her Tommy and Tuppence mystery series featuring the beloved sleuthing duo. And Then There Were None: One of the most famous and beloved mysteries from the queen of suspense! Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a isolated mansion on Indian Island by a host, who, surprisingly, fails to appear.

Historia
On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.

Good and well paced
Revisado: 09-28-20
I enjoyed this straightforward crime novel. It was well paced and covered a mentally unstable villain very well.
While I gave the story 4 stars it may have deserved slightly more.
The book finished the story but the end felt rushed. I felt it needed to wrap around and complete the goodbye story of a few major characters who were a major focus early on in the story.
Overall it was really good with great narration.
