The brutality of war was all Ian Troy had ever known. Peace was all he ever wanted. Fate had other plans when it placed the Crown of Stones, an ancient artifact of untold power, into his battle-weary hands. With one reckless wish, he ended a conflict that had been tearing the realms apart since before he was born—and paid a terrible price. A decade later, Ian is still haunted by that tragic day. Running from the blood in his veins and on his hands, he struggles to forget—what he’s done and what he is.

Wonderful world building
Revisado: 12-04-21
This book started off a bit slow but I was quickly engulfed in the story. Great writing and good characters. I was a little put off by the main character at first but he quickly grew on me as he worked to confront his past. The world building in this book was phenomenal. Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to dive into the next one.

Historia
Secrets are a dragon’s best friend. Deception is a close second. Both provide a sturdy armor, allowing half-dragon shape-shifter Dahlia Nite to live undetected among the humans. Walking in two worlds, belonging in neither, she wraps herself in a shroud of lies to hide in plain sight. But nothing stays hidden forever. When dismembered bodies of multiple species are dumped on the riverbank, the case falls to Dahlia and Detective Alex Creed. Backed by Sentinel City’s new task force, the pair finds themselves urged along by clues that seem too good to be true.

Well written fantasy novel!
Revisado: 11-03-21
This audiobook is a little on the long side (15 hours!) but don't let that scare you away from the incredible world that C.L. Schneider has created. The action is well written and easily visualized and the interpersonal relationships are wonderfully realistic and thoughtfully cultivated. I look forward to seeing where the characters end up in the next book and how it affects the professional, platonic, and romantic relationships of everyone involved.

Historia
All I did was try to help my best friend escape her abusive boyfriend. And for that I ended up in a wheelchair. Life’s no longer worth living. No man will want me now. But my nightmare is only beginning. Ethan wants me as leverage to get his woman back. I end up under the protection of the Satan’s Devils, an outlaw motorcycle club in Arizona. The woman I was would have been in her element among a group of handsome, rugged bikers; the disabled woman I am now feels scared and vulnerable, and soon I find this isn’t the safest place to hide.

If you like biker stories, you'll love this
Revisado: 08-31-21
I wasn't very sure about this book as bikers have never been my forte but I was pleasantly surprised with the characters in this book. The main female character had a lot of trauma to deal with due to her accident but the male hero was surprisingly understanding and supportive, in his own way, about it. I think the way that the author wrote the female character was heartbreakingly realistic to what people likely go through in a situation like hers. The things she had to deal with throughout the story and her growth as a character were very well written. The male Hero had depth to him as well and the way he handled things was unconventional to say the least but still had a personal touch to it that made the character feel cohesive and real. The writing itself was easy to follow and the storyline didn't drag and was full of action so it kept me entertained throughout.

Great paranormal romance
Revisado: 08-01-21
I really loved this book's take on the paranormal genre. There were of course vampires and werewolves because where would any paranormal story be without them? But the two main characters were neither and that was refreshing.
The main female protagonist is written so astonishingly well, I'm sad she isn't someone I can meet because she is so very relatable. I loved her personality and the quirky way she thinks and speaks.
The main male protagonist was written very well also, I loved the inner thoughts we got to see from him. I love that he isn't just a generic vampire, werewolf, witch, etc. Not that I don't love those as well because I do but it was very interesting to see this new species I'd never really read about before be birthed onto the page here. Kudos to the author for her imagination and inventiveness.
My only real complaint here is that the story was so short! I hope we get to see more of them in future books.

Wonderful tween story
Revisado: 07-31-21
I was very impressed with the characters in this book. Often times adult authors forget what it was like to be a kid and child characters can come off a bit too mature for their age but these characters were spot on with their attitudes and the things that seem like the end of the world when you're that age as well as the healthy dose of respect for adults even when you don't want to listen to them that you still have at that age before you hit the rebellious phase. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would absolutely read this with my daughter when she is older. I think kids around 12 or 13 will love this story and find the characters very relatable. The magic style in the story sounds corny in the synopsis but the way it was written felt very organic to the storyline and I never felt like it was over the top or pushing past what is believably realistic in a fantasy novel. All in all I was impressed with the writing and I hope we get to see more of Cat's journey.

Excellent character and world building
Revisado: 07-01-21
This book is packed full of such amazing writing. I was thoroughly impressed with this first book in the series. It managed to balance introducing quite a few side characters and giving them depth and backstory while not overwhelming the reader with too much to keep track of. The main characters in particular are written with so much intricacy that you immediately feel connected to them and invested in their story.
Deva, our main heroine has been hiding from a past that she is terrified of returning to but an obligation to pay off a debt pushes her to confront her past and in doing so she meets Aleksei, a fighter with an story of his own full of twists and turns. He has a sexy alpha personality but is there more to his story than meets the eye? And will Deva let herself fall for someone who reminds her so much of the past she left behind?

Interesting take on the vampire genre
Revisado: 06-07-21
This is book 2 in the Jaded Vamp series and the action in this one takes place 50 years after the events of the 1st book. This is definitely a fast paced book, if you enjoy fast paced stories, this is for you! I personally would have liked to see more in each scene as these characters are written with such great intricacy that I’d like to see more of their thoughts and emotions.
I particularly loved Kaysee. Her character felt very real and raw to me. She wasn’t written to make every correct decision but she also didn’t fall into any of the normal tropes of female characters who make bad decisions. She generally made good and logical decisions but we got to see the why behind them and really experience the dark thoughts that make us all human even though we’d never admit it.
Then there was Dom. As a character he reminded me a lot of a high school jock who grew up to be a biker. Not that he was either of those things being an immortal vampire, but the personality was there. At different phases of the book I wavered between despising him and empathizing with him while agreeing with the decisions he made even though I didn’t necessarily like them. It’s rare that I find a character who elicits such complex emotional feelings in a book and I really hope that in the next one we get to see more of the inner turmoil of all of our characters.
There were of course several other characters in the book including our bad guys and with the head hopping writing style, we get a glimpse into all of them which affords us a unique perspective of not just the good but also the bad characters and what fuels them as well. It brings a unique perspective of humanity to the villains rather than just painting them as evil and writing their feelings off.
All in all, I quite enjoyed the writing style of this book; my only complaint was that there wasn’t more of it!
