Historia
Between the ages of twelve and twenty-four, the brain changes in important and, at times, challenging ways. In Brainstorm, the renowned psychiatrist and bestselling author of Parenting from the Inside Out, The Whole-Brain Child, and Mindsight, Daniel Siegel busts a number of commonly held myths about adolescence — for example, that it is merely a stage of “immaturity” filled with often “crazy” behavior — to reveal how it is in fact a vital time in our lives in terms of charting the course for the adults we ultimately become.

Everyone needs to know this information!
Revisado: 07-23-20
I firmly believe that the world needs to begin mindfulness and Mindsight training in order to save the planet. Understanding the brain, and how childhood impacts adulthood (for better or worse) needs to be taught in schools. We need a new approach and now we have the science to make changes.

Historia
The first love in our lives is our mother. Recognizing her face, her voice, the meaning of her moods, and her facial expressions is crucial to survival. In this book, Dr. Christine Ann Lawson vividly describes how mothers who suffer from borderline personality disorder produce children who may flounder in life even as adults, futilely struggling to reach the safety of a parental harbor, unable to recognize that their borderline parent lacks a pier, or even a discernible shore.

BPD effects are everyone in society at some degree. Therefore the more people that understand the better chances we have as a society to make a difference. Many people are completely unaware they even have BPD.

Historia
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

Every person should read this book. In fact, it should be incorporated in the educational systems.
Revisado: 08-02-17
If everyone started learning about self compassion, and we all started truly trying to have compassion for ourselves, what a different world it could be. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
The emotional trauma we suffer as children not only shapes our emotional lives as adults but also affects our physical health and overall well-being. Scientists now know on a biochemical level exactly how parents' chronic fights, divorce, death in the family, being bullied or hazed, and growing up with a hypercritical, alcoholic, or mentally ill parent can leave permanent, physical "fingerprints" on our brains.

Amazing info!
Revisado: 02-18-17
I encourage all parents to listen to this book. It's a lot of great info packed into a short book. But it gets you really thinking. I also encourage parents to check out her other books, especially if they can identify and relate with the stuff Brene talks about in her research. It's life changing powerful stuff.
