Historia
In 2016, journalist Tara Henley was at the top of her game working in Canadian media. She had traveled the world, from Soweto to Bangkok and Borneo to Brooklyn, interviewing authors and community leaders, politicians and Hollywood celebrities. But when she started getting chest pains at her desk in the newsroom, none of that seemed to matter. The health crisis - not cardiac, it turned out, but anxiety - forced her to step off the media treadmill and examine her life and the stressful 21st century world around her.

A game changer

I am so surprised this book doesn't have more reviews - it's incredible! I too live in Toronto, am struggling with years of overwork in a corporate environment, and only now realizing the power of community and relationships. This book speaks to so many levels of the dysfunctional work environment many of us accept as normal. Life doesn't have to be this way and this book takes you on a journey of one woman's quest to make that oh so apparent. My deepest thanks to Tara for writing this book - it's changed me.

In this timely manifesto, the authors of the New York Times best-seller Rework broadly reject the prevailing notion that long hours, aggressive hustle, and "whatever it takes" are required to run a successful business today.

Thank you, Jason and David, for giving me a new perspective on what a business can be. After listening to this audiobook I've started to seriously evaluate my current workplace. Where many company's pay lip service to caring about their employees, you guys seem to have a real pulse of what it's like for an employee to work within your business and what it means to serve them (in addition to your customers). Thanks for bringing humanness back into the workplace.

Historia
Diet Recovery 2: Restoring Mind and Metabolism from Dieting, Weight Loss, Exercise, and Healthy Food is the ultimate guide to breaking free from the empty hunt for the perfect diet and the counterproductive pursuit of losing weight. It's true, whether you are cutting carbs, or fats, or eating a vegetarian diet, or going Paleo, or eating a truckload of fiber - or even reducing your calorie intake... All of it has been proven ineffective in every weight loss study ever conducted.

Would you consider the audio edition of Diet Recovery 2 to be better than the print version?
Yes. Even though I own both the print and audio, I use the print more for referencing specific sections that the audio points me to. The audio is priceless.
What did you like best about this story?
After searching for years to find the ideal diet, and trying just about everything out there, hearing Matt's story and information in this book was like an epiphany. I was literally starving myself and getting sicker and sicker until I found and applied the material in this book. Overall, this book just makes sense. But do yourself a favour...listen to it multiple times b/c if you're like me, you may initially get caught up in Matt's humour and miss a lot of the critical info regarding implementing this recovery program.
Have you listened to any of Matt Stone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to many of Matt's audio books and this is definitely his best. However, Solving the Paleo Equation is his most refined and complete work, but it's only available in print (and Kindle). I hope he and Dr. Smith put it into audio format soon.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
His discussions about fat and how so much of our hormone regulation is connected to it. I'd feared fat (and carbs) for most of my life, but after listening and re-listening to these parts of the book, my eyes were opened and my fat (and carb) fears dropped away. And...the best part of it all...I started to feel better.
Any additional comments?
Stick with the program!!! Don't stop when you start to gain weight...that's only the first stage. See it through...I am only 3 months in, but I've seen changes in my body composition that I didn't know were possible. Yes, I gained weight. Yes, people 'initially' commented on me "getting fat", BUT just as Matt said, the fat gain eventually led to more muscle on my body and the "fat" comments suddenly turned to "are you working out?", "man, you look good.", "How much protein are you eating, because your arms are getting jacked." Ha! I just laugh and say, honestly, I barely work out...instead, I've stop restricting my diet and I eat A LOT more.
Oddly though, my temps are still not in the 98s, so I'm beginning to work with Dr. Smith in order to tweak my current regime.
One other thing...sign up for Matt's 180 Degree Health newsletter. It provides great info and over the course of about 90 days, you'll be able to buy all of this books for about a buck. I've also signed up for Matt's 180 degree radio...it too has been well worth it ($3/month, but first month is free).
