Better than the previous few
Revisado: 08-26-24
I needed this one (maybe the last, too? With the cooper) to get me back into the series… I was not enjoying the storyline or characters of the last few, but I really liked this story.

Historia
The city of Celum is not much like Liscor at all. While Erin is surrounded by familiar, human faces, she’s far from home and without her inn. At the same time, a certain ill-tempered Lyonette is squatting in Erin’s inn, and Goblins are on the move. The Goblin Lord’s threat reaches across the entire region, and the Redfang tribe has rallied against him with the Floodplains tribe, although their Chieftains do not agree on some crucial matters. This winter, there is only snow, Goblins, magic, and iambic pentameter.

Still love the series, but mixed feelings on this book
Revisado: 01-27-24
Still a great story, and the narration is fantastic - but as others have mentioned, there seemed to be a lot of filler in this one. And for a while there, I cringed every time I heard “this is the story of …”. Probably a bit of a “turning point” in the series(?), so I definitely still look forward to the next.

Even better than the first
Revisado: 01-16-24
I liked the first book… but I loved the second. This one has me hooked now. And the narrator does a FANTASTIC job with all the different voices - species, dialects… I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

Second time through, and I love this one particularly… Probably because Ron and Tin are two of my favorite characters. And the Cats.

Great story!
Revisado: 11-02-22
Such a good story, and well performed. A pretty classic plot (even with some cheeky references to similar stories), but I thought with very clever and original lore. I really got into it and can’t wait for the next book!!

Better than the first

Better than the first; makes me look forward to the third. The male narrator’s intonation still throws me off occasionally (upward at the end of practically every sentence/phrase almost like a question), but you mostly get used to it.

Least favorite of the series
Revisado: 06-16-22
Most of the book seems like an interlude - almost could’ve been .5 book… or appended to the previous, until the end. Looking forward to the next one though.

Historia
After winning two wars against the Nemovorti, Minalan plans an expedition to The Lost Valley of Anghysbel, in the far north of his realm. It's there, in the caldera of a supervolcano at the edge of the tundra, he suspects many of the answers he so desperately needs might be hidden. The only problem is that thanks to the anti-magical properties of the jevolar, his spells won’t work; he’ll be without magic for the first time since he came into his Talent.

Maybe going off the rails??
Revisado: 06-07-22
I get it… 12 books in, you might stretch for plot ideas… but I’m starting to worry if I’ll continue to enjoy the series. It’s been a story/world of magic and goblins and dragons - now it’s… something else. I’m not sure I enjoy the shift to something that’s becoming more sci-fi than pure fantasy. There is now a definitive connection to ‘real’ history (hinted to in previous books) that I really did not need - it almost ruins the suspension of disbelief, at least for me.
