Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

THE MOST UNSURPASSED TRUTH THAT EVERYONE DENIES
Revisado: 07-10-18
this book was given to me by a psychologist many years ago who was dying of brain cancer and it literally changed my life. I had some understanding of jung and Freud and Campbell but it was the prose of Ernest Becker and general writing style that captivated my imagination. I find the hypothesis to be so ubiquitous and far reaching in the behavior and thought processes of all human beings that I ask for 1 criticism to have this house of cards collapse. we are Men. we are half animal and half angel and this anxiety that is produced from this transitional species called humans creates all the dread, anxiety, fear, purposeless and meaningless in most everyone's lives if they come to be honest with themselves and admit it. it is truly my number one favorite book of all time and I make a day out of reading it once a year. it's richness and far-reaching implications demonstrate to us that though we may live and have access to a Divine imagination as William Blake might say, our hearts beat loudly our blood flows we emit foul smells and excrete waste products. all as we age, become sick and eventually die. it is the one aspect about anyone's life that he can find empathy with his fellow man, he will become sick, he will become old and decay and finally he will cease to be. if it shaped my worldview in the way that I did when I was 19, you should give it a try as well with an open mind. the poetry, pros and arguments given are a delight to read can you come away with a greater respect for the burden our species has to carry during its evolution into what we don't know and how fast we are not sure.

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.
