Historia
After the Assimilation System inadvertently outed Thaden as a Contender, as well as confirming that he was at the top of most of the Rankings, the Lifewarden has to leave the town of Ashcleft as soon as possible. Why? Because with his Level being over 21, he can now be attacked by other Contenders with a lower Level than him; they are eager to bring him down so that they’ll have a chance at the top spot, which will guarantee that their families back home on Earth will be safe.

You have a story in your stats bro
Revisado: 09-27-24
Alright look, I love this book but there’s a point where I begin to start loosing my mind when there’s a solid 5 straight minutes of hearing the same stats be read out to me, hearing the same skills description be read out at every chance our character get a new one, and being forced to listen to every small and minute detail of how this spell or that spell is different which the comparison being made up of reading the ENTIRE spells descriptions adding more to the audiobook than the actual story itself.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to hear about the spells but I don’t want to hear about them every time he’s looking at them. Simply reading out the new spells after saying he only has three new spells would be far better than reading every single one. It’s a constant pain to be into the story, enjoying it, loving the thrill of not knowing what’s going to happen next and then BAM- three minutes of nonstop stats, descriptions, explanations, comparisons, stats, overview of what’s changed by reading the entire page of stats, so on and so fourth. It ruins my experience and to be honest, this 17 hour book felt more like 5 hours of story, 8 hours of stat reading, and 4 hours of hearing how our MC is comparing things that we already know, understand, and don’t need to hear a refresher on it.
I ended up skipping through %90 of every level up because I can only hear the ‘warning you can only level up outside of a dungeon on when not in a fight’ so many times before I begin to absolutely loose my mind. If I didn’t like the story I can tell you right now I’d drop this in an instant the second I was forced to hear the level up being read like that. SHORTEN IN FOR GODS SAKE, just read it like - ‘level up, level up, level up, please choose a spell before you can continue leveling up’. It would save my god forsaken sanity at this point. If I hear the entire page of spells again I’m probably going to rip my hair out in frustration at the fact that I’ve basically been scammed into buying a description of a list of spells with a side of story.
Please please PLEASE stop making all these lengthy descriptions of spells we already know. If there’s a difference in them, summarize or gloss over it and stop reading the entire thing, and if you’re so determined to read it all then just do it once a book instead of every chance you get. I’ve lost my mind over this while creating this review and the more I think about it the more I get frustrated with it.
I still love the story but I probably won’t be getting the next book if this is how it goes again. I don’t want to waste my money on something that says it’s 17 hours of story only to find out a good 4-5 of them are just stat and spell descriptions. Sorry for the long review but this is far more frustrating for me when this story is actually really good. If I was reading this instead of listening to it then this wouldn’t be a problem because I can skip over the entire stat page with ease, and having the entire stats and spells being described on paper works far better when reading it rather than listening to it. Just… please don’t make me waste three or more hours of my life hearing the same spells be repeated to me like I have the memory of a toddler

What a utterly enthralling story
Revisado: 05-11-24
Not much to say, narration is top tier as always the case with Travis, the story is leaving me wanting for more, and the characters seem to draw you in. Though, did you really have to leave us on such a cliffhanger? Like seriously, now we have to wait I don’t even know how long for the next book to see what happens and that’s just mean. I love it

Honestly, this genre isn’t in my usual tastes. I prefer fast action with crazy amounts of power being thrown around but this just seems to intrigue me more and more. I can’t wait to see when the next book comes out

The anticipation is killing me
Revisado: 01-25-24
I love dragons, and I love dragon riders. Eragon was my favorite series for almost a full decade until this book came and blew it out of the water. Eragon was always a favorite for its involvement of dragons and the bond to their riders, but it never really expanded on such concepts, being vague and distant with the notions. This series takes it much further, and in doing so sates a desire for a closer bond between rider and dragon that I did not know I had. Holt and Ash are as close as can be, relying on each other, balancing one another out. Nether gives or takes more than the other, and both are obviously in love with the others soul(in a brotherly way, not a weird way). This is what I look for, more focus on the bond between each other, and less focus on romance. I think that’s what makes this book seem better to me, the MC isn’t obsessing over something that will never happen, and the fact that you used such a reason to increase the bond is amazing. I can’t wait for the next book, and I’ve already recommended this book to my friend, along with my other current reads. 10/10, will definitely listen to again

Historia
Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people. An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation. But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by. Unless he does something about it.

What an amazing yet frustrating perspective
Revisado: 12-31-23
I glanced over this story more than a few times, not really interested in what seemed to be a boring story that would be about grass growing… and I was right except it wasn’t boring and it wasn’t grass growing but instead a flesh devouring tree that housed a human souls incompatible with its new tree body, outmatched in every way, destined to be slapped down by the heaven and destroyed by others greed, yet somehow persevering in its pursuit of power. I absolutely loved this story, and I’ve never read anything quite like it ever before.
I’m not a very big fan of cultivation stories, yet the angle this one took just baffled me and once I started reading- or rather listening in this case, I couldn’t stop. 21 hours of amazing storytelling, with the ending leaving me ravenous for more. The narrator did amazing, even if I didn’t quite like how some of the internal dialogue tended to switch to a young sounding child at times since it threw me off, but still amazing.

Revisado: 12-02-23
As usual, narration was spot on, and the story is getting better and better. I personally never have issues with a book or story doing something odd or unexpected, even if many say it’s bad. I love listening to this, and while I wish to have it come sooner, I can wait. It’s well worth following

A world filled with me myself and I
Revisado: 12-22-22
Truly and utterly amazing. While there wasn’t as much action as I’d prefer, there was enough. To truly enjoy a series that looks to be one that will go on for a while one must be willing to accept that some of those books will be either filler or a mix of filler and action. This felt like the latter, being chock full of both filler and enough action to make it interesting. It’s obvious that it is putting a close to events as quickly as possible without feeling rushed but the part with the portal in a trapped area felt too hallow and rushed to me. Even so, it wraps it up nicely with relationships. I must say that I am sad to see both females of interest leaving Jason behind. It instills a sense of loss I suppose, which I guess is the point. Once more, Jason is alone, yet surrounded by his team which will(hopefully) prop him up. I look forward to the next book!

I love this book, and I look forward to the next one whenever it comes. I haven’t been this excited to read/listen to a book in years, and it reminded me of when I first picked up the book Eragon. The bonds between dragon and rider is crafted beautifully, and seems like truly a thing made of magic. Thank you for this amazing read, and I look forward to the next!
