Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-31-23
Clearly trumpeting the common woke ideology, this performance is sadly just like so many others. Anti-religion, foul-mouthed, and full of annoying voice qualities (vocal fry, repetitive intonations, etc.). Fraser is the only one who gives a decent performance, and even that is hard to listen to. Oh, and the jokes are unbearably corny.

Historia
B. Rosenberger Rosenberg, neurotic and underappreciated film critic (failed academic, filmmaker, paramour, shoe salesman who sleeps in a sock drawer), stumbles upon a hitherto unseen film by an enigmatic outsider - a film he’s convinced will change his career trajectory and rock the world of cinema to its core. His hands on what is possibly the greatest movie ever made, a three-month-long stop-motion masterpiece that took its reclusive auteur 90 years to complete, B. knows that it is his mission to show it to the rest of humanity. The only problem: The film is destroyed.

Yet Another Success Book
Revisado: 12-15-18
I don't want to denigrate Sinek's key insight -- through really, the title literally says it ALL -- but the contention that "success" (which usually means either gaining wealth, approbation, societal change, or if you're really good, all three) requires one find higher purpose in one's life pursuits rings hollow. It's a bit like a therapist showing a couple how to have a really, really, really, really GREAT marriage so they can improve their sex lives. Or a pastor using the Bible to teach us how to get rich. That which is most significant is cheapened. To be fair, a lot of business books I have read are like this.
Sinek repeatedly begs the question by claiming that had such-and-such failed company "started with why", they would have succeeded. Much of his argumentation was anecdotal in nature. His strongest arguments generalize from a handful of unique situations which he even admits are not reproducible! These factors make the book's premise too weak to take to the bank.
Supposing the premise is correct, are we to conclude that it is really worth reconstructing one's life around? Couldn't Apple's image of "challenging the status quo" be simply that -- an image? Dare we confuse finding one's life purpose with BRANDING?
On the plus side, Sinek comes across as interesting and engaging. He'd probably be a great guest to have over for dinner and conversation.

The lectures address-in chronological sequence-a series of major works that have shaped the ongoing development of Western thought both in their own right and in cultural dialogue with other traditions. In the process, the course engages many of the most perennial and far-reaching questions that we face in our daily lives.

Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

Roy Dotrice cannot be bothered to recall his pronunciation and accents from one book to the next. It's frustrating when you've come to appreciate one character, and then his or her voice and name suddenly changes when you begin the next book.

Historia
Craig Beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a nice home, and a successful media career; a director of several companies and at one time the trustee of a large children’s charity. Outwardly, Craig was a highly successful and functioning professional man in spite of a ‘two-bottles-of-wine-a-night" drinking habit. For 20 years he struggled to control his drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

I can't buy into this
Revisado: 01-02-17
I'll give Mr. Beck the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his own success story, but he has some glaring factual errors in this book about AA in particular which, for me, throws up multiple red flags. Wish I could let this pass, as I almost never leave reviews, but this book seems to me too much like quackery to just say nothing and move on.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
