I'm not 12 so I can't give a fair review to this attempt at young adult drama.

Historia
When Matthew Luedecke leaves his small town for the university, he's hoping for a new start and a more exciting life. He'll get more than he bargained for. Recruited by a shadowy group of Nicaraguan ex-pats, Matt soon discovers how sheltered and blinded most Americans are when it comes to the covert machinations of world powers and the intricacies and danger of international intrigue. From an innocent pool party to a bloody firefight along the Coco River in Nicaragua's dense jungles, Matt is about to find out that an "exciting" may not be all it's cracked up to be.

I wanted to like this. The story had potential but it just didn't seem to get fully developed. I didn't stay focused while I was reading. This just didn't hold my attention. I tried reading first, then I resorted to the audio book in the car, where I had no choice but to listen. And that didn't help at all. The narrator..... kept..... pausing..... in.... the.... middle.... of sentences. I tried to change the narration speed but then it just sounded like a chipmunk and still had the awkward misplaced pauses.

I loved reading this book. And the audio version does a great job of bringing the book to life. Zombies. Nuclear Bomb. Time travel. Action. Suspense. Intrigue. A drunk, alternate reality hopping girl, and a guy who loves grilling up porterhouse steaks.

the first time i read this book i was pleasantly surprised. i had the first part of the story sitting in my kindle app for a few months before i decided to read it. i'm not a big western fan but had enjoyed Legendarium so thought i'd give this a try. i loved it and downloaded the full novel. this book will appeal to history buffs, conspiracy theorists, and scifi / fantasy fans as well. this is a great conspiracy theory story; it's a concise, well-written story which did well as an audiobook. there were no awkward pauses by the reader, and the slight drawl in the narrator's accent complimented the story telling atmosphere.

Historia
Sarah Kauffman sought permission from her church elders to paint murals on a few of the Amish community's barns. Each was designed like an old-fashioned quilt square, representing a piece of the Amish traditions Sarah loved. The works of art were intended to draw more tourists to the Home Valley in the struggling economy. But instead, they invited a menace. One by one, each barn is set ablaze and destroyed.…The arson fires spread fear through the community - amongst Amish and Englischers alike. Now Sarah wonders if she's being punished for her pridefulness…or whether there's a more malevolent will at work.

I liked the story, but I couldn't get over the narrator's crappy fake accent. The characters are Amish. Pennsylvania Dutch. Not vampires from Romania.
