I hate the character development
Revisado: 10-20-21
The sudden and radical shift in character for L and the influence of M have greatly upset me. To a point I can understand L’s rationale but the way she goes about it all it just infuriating. I have hopes that things will improve for the Neckar book but at this point I believe there will be a rift driven between H’s group and L’s groups at the fort that will only lead to more hurt and betrayal.

That being said, it’s still an interesting story. This is a glimpse into Garm’s past and gives the readers a bit of historical information about the CC.

The new narrator is beyond terrible
Revisado: 06-09-21
The actual story is good, and I love this series.
The change in narrator was terrible. This narrator is utterly monotone and without passion. I honestly could not tell when one character or another was talking because everyone, male or female, sounds EXACTLY the same. I had to slow the book down to .5 speed just to properly get what was going on in the story because the narrator apparently doesn’t need to breathe while speed reading everything.
I could not enjoy this book like I have enjoyed every other book from this series; the narrator gives no life to anyone or anything going on in it. I’d rather download the Kindle version and have a text-to-voice program read it for me than listen to this guy ruin such an amazing series.

Frank becomes a force to be reckoned with
Revisado: 08-08-19
I’m a huge fan of this series and Frank is definitely my favorite character. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this side quest and I was definitely happy with it. Seeing Frank face his own demons and overcome them was just awesome. I can honestly say that I had trouble pausing the book to do normal things like sleeping.
I laughed, I cried, sometimes at the same time. Frank really came into his own self in this book. I can’t wait to see how the others will react to Franks newfound abilities and confidence.

Just too confusing with enough context
Revisado: 04-02-17
I listened to the whole book because I really wanted to give it a chance, but I just couldn't enjoy it.
The technology described in the book is confusing and the author fails to give enough of a description or context to help the reader understand what he heck they are talking about. Those description of the entire society structure is confusing and never contains enough information to help the reader understand what is the purpose of it all or what the characters are even talking about. I'm as clueless now as I was at the beginning, but now I'm frustrated. By the end I just wanted the damned thing to be over so I could move on to a better book.
I have the give the narrator credit, she did a good job and if not for her, I might not have bothered to finish the book at all.

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Such an amazing story! Can't wait for the next one!
Revisado: 03-18-17
I love that this book gives readers a perspective of super heroes and the effort they put into avoiding collateral damage while doing their jobs. I love that we get a step by step of their training programs and how the world works from their eyes. What I really found interesting though was that they address and emphasize the need for humility in a hero. This is something that isn't touched on with much, if any, depth in other similar stories.
As for the actual storyline, it was so good I had difficulty stopping myself from listening at times when I had other things to do. I got so caught up in each characters hurdles and how they perceived the world around them that I would just lose myself to the story. They narrator did a great job of giving like and personality to each character. I can't wait to start the next book!

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

The story felt like an after story to Narnia. I spent most of the time thinking that the author was knocking off Narnia and giving it a more adult perspective.

Such an amazing story
Revisado: 02-16-16
I've listened to this book three times now. I still haven't gotten bored of it!
The characters are developed very well and it takes no time at all to understand each of them, their motives, desires, etc.
As for the storyline, it is great to see the progression of the world around the characters as time goes on. Throughout the story we get plenty of background into the history of the land prior to the beginning of the story. But, by giving the background piece by piece as everything progresses, you're left wanting more, to the point that you just don't want to stop! We see everything from the political developments of the nobility, to the perils and trials of the Elantrians, to the motives and beliefs of the priests; and it all ties together so seamlessly that you are left with questions when a new perspective begins.
My only complaint is that there is nothing more. Since this is a stand alone story, we don't have any more books about this marvelous world and where things will go from this point.

The year is 2108, and the North American Commonwealth is bursting at the seams. For welfare rats like Andrew Grayson, there are only two ways out of the crime-ridden and filthy welfare tenements: You can hope to win the lottery and draw a ticket on a colony ship settling off-world...or you can join the service. With the colony lottery a pipe dream, Andrew chooses to enlist in the armed forces for a shot at real food, a retirement bonus, and maybe a ticket off Earth.

Just couldn't stop!
Revisado: 01-20-16
The story arch is your basic Sci-Fi military space novel. However, the development of the main character and those he comes into contact with is superb. There is enough detail to give you a decent picture of each person, but it never seems excessive.
The author does a great job of using technical jargon when necessary, yet explaining be it enough that you can comprehend what is going on.
I've got to say that you really develop a connection to the main character and end up rooting for him quite a bit. I enjoyed the book so much that I ended up listening to it and foregoing sleep as a consequence; though it was worth it.
